Presenters: Dr. Leonard Astwood & Richard Campbell
Registration: https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_8oCRTfHwR3iF_Uz7FKWdDg
“Boys don’t cry! Toughen up!” This was a constant refrain for many generations for boys to suppress their emotions and “be strong,” which resulted in generations of adult men who didn’t know how to be vulnerable or express their feelings. These misguided notions of masculinity have proven to be emotionally damaging, and parents today are deliberately seeking to empower boys to share their feelings authentically by encouraging open communication. The presenters will highlight tools to build self-confidence and emotional intelligence, and foster resilience as they navigate their world.

Join us this fall for “Girl Code” at Family Centre! This fun and empowering peer group for girls ages 12-14 will explore self-esteem and relationships to help increase girls’ coping and self-expression skills. Girl Code helps to boost girls’ confidence, self-awareness, and decision-making skills in a safe and supportive environment.
“Girl Code” is designed to address the challenges teen girls face today, helping them to make informed and positive life choices. The primary focus will be on relationships and self-esteem. Our sessions will guide participants in identifying, understanding, and managing intense emotions through healthy self-expression and the development of effective coping skills. Additionally, we will explore decision-making techniques using problem-solving strategies.
Family Centre Counselling Team Leader, Rishèe Paschal shares, “When girls voice their ideas and opinions in a safe environment, it strengthens their confidence and encourages a positive identity. This enhances their self-awareness and strengthens their ability to make good choices.”
Parents/Guardians, register your young person by filling out the inquiry form or calling Family Centre at 232-1116. Let’s help our girls navigate life with confidence!
