EIS Years 10–13 students and their Model International Court of Justice event allowed students to take on the roles of judges, lawyers, and jury members as they debated real-world legal disputes. The experience provided a valuable insights into international law and diplomacy.
Pairs of countries were pitted against each other, with each pair participating in two court cases. The United States went first against China, followed by Russia and Ukraine, then Cameroon and Nigeria, and finally North Korea and South Korea.
It was not only a great learning experience, but also an opportunity to develop key life skills fostering confidence, public speaking skills, critical thinking, teamwork and logical reasoning.
It was fascinating and an insightful way of demonstrating how international disputes are resolved.
