Isaiah 51:9
Awake, awake, put on strength, O arm of the LORD; awake, as in the ancient days, in the generations of old. Art thou not it that hath cut Rahab, and wounded the dragon?

║▌│█║▌│ █║▌│█│║
The expressions "arm of the Lord" or "hand of the Lord" have diverse meanings. In the book of Deuteronomy 26:8, it's said, "And the LORD brought us forth out of Egypt with a mighty hand, and with an outstretched arm, and with great terribleness, and with signs, and with wonders:" Here, the hand of the Lord is referred to as the power of God which is able to deliver from the hand of the enemy. But in Nehemiah 2:18, it's written, "Then I told them of the hand of my God which was good upon me; as also the king's words that he had spoken unto me. And they said, Let us rise up and build. So they strengthened their hands for this good work."

The hand of the Lord here, is referred to as the grace or favor of God. But the following is another scripture which says this, "Awake, awake, put on strength, O arm of the LORD; awake, as in the ancient days, in the generations of old. Art thou not it that hath cut Rahab, and wounded the dragon?" (Isaiah 51:9). The voice asked the Arm of the Lord to awake, and put on strength. This is no more about power or favor ; for you cannot ask power to put on power or to awake. Here, the Arm of God is used to refer to Jesus Christ.

Jesus was the One who saved the children of Israel from the hands of Pharaoh, and slain him. The name "Rahab" here, doesn't refer to the harlot in Joshua 2:1, the name means "storm or arrogance." And it depicts more Pharaoh and his people which the Lord drowned in the sea. Pharaoh is also referred to as "Tannin" or "the dragon." Thus as the Lord slain the dragon, and saved God's people in the past, He has also defeated Satan, and conquered death by resurrecting from the dead to give eternal life to them that believe in Him. Glory to God.

"And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God" (Matthew 16:16).

║▌│█║▌│ █║▌│█│║
We have to understand something about the name, Christ. It's the English form of the Greek "Christos," and that is the Greek form of the Hebrew "Messiah." What does "Messiah" mean? It means the God-man deliverer. That's why Jesus is called the Anointed One, the God-man Messiah.

From the prophecies of Moses and the other prophets, they understood that a Messiah would come, the God-man would come, and that this God-man would deliver them. And what kind of deliverance were they expecting? The ultimate deliverance! It was the deliverance from all evil and from all that's human. Why did the Jews think that way?

It's because they knew that what was human had become corrupted. They knew the story how man fell in the Garden of Eden through Adam's transgression. Thus, they believed that only the God-man deliverer, the ultimate deliverer, could set humanity free from Satan's bo***ge and the corruption that worked in nature.

Man's heart became deceitful above all things and desperately wicked (Jeremiah 17:9). So, man realised he needed deliverance from himself, from that fallen nature. That's why they looked forward to the coming of the God-man, the Messiah. That's why He was called the Anointed One. Not because they didn't know about the anointing.

They knew Moses was anointed, likewise the priests. They knew the Kings, for example, David, and even Saul, and then the prophets, were all anointed. They were familiar with the anointing. So they weren't just talking about an anointed one but the God-man. That was their expectation.

But sadly, when He came, they didn't recognise Him. The Bible says, "He came unto his own, and his own received him not" (John 1:11). Jesus is that God-man. He is the Christ. Not just an anointed man, but the One who brought the ultimate deliverance. In Him, you've been delivered from all that's evil and from the fallen human nature. You've been brought into a new life.

You're not trying to be delivered; you've been delivered: "Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son" (Colossians 1:13). You're not of the old human order; you're a new creation by reason of Christ---the God-man deliverer. Blessed be God!

Isaiah 51:7
Hearken unto me, ye that know righteousness, the people in whose heart is my law; fear ye not the reproach of men, neither be ye afraid of their revilings.

║▌│█║▌│ █║▌│█│║
God, addressing His people, said, "Hearken unto me, ye that know righteousness, the people in whose heart is my law..." (Isaiah 51:7). Here, God is talking to the righteous people. And the Bible showed us who the righteous people are: they are the ones whose lives are recreated in righteousness. Christ is the Righteousness ; and those who are born in Him take up the righteousness of the Lord. You cannot be declared righteous because you behaved well, no. The children of Israel were daily taught into the laws of Moses, and from generation to generation, yet they couldn't attain the righteousness of God.

And so, the Bible says that, "The LORD looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any that did understand, and seek God. They are all gone aside, they are all together become filthy: there is none that doeth good, no, not one." (Psalms 14:2-3). Though they were taught in the laws of Moses, none of them did good, not even one. Wherefore righteousness is only obtain as a gift from the sacrifice of the Lord Jesus. If it's a gift, then you obtain it by faith, not by your own works. It's like you receiving an honorary doctorate. That means that you didn't fully study for it, but you received it anyway.

Besides, God also said that His righteous people are those in whose heart are His "law." The "Law" here referred to the "Word." Those in whose heart dwells the Word of God. And you know that Jesus is the Word of God. And as it's written, "But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God." (John 1:12-13). As many as received Jesus (the Word), to them is given the legal right to be children of God. Knowing that the children of God cannot be unrighteous people, thus being born in Christ, you are legally and fully a righteous man or woman.

To conclude, the last part of our main verse says that, "fear ye not the reproach of men, neither be ye afraid of their revilings." (Isaiah 51:7). Irrespective of the reproaches, revilings, insults, you're still what God made you to be in Christ. So God says, "...Do not fear the reproach of mere mortals or be terrified by their insults." (Isaiah 51:7 NIV). Why ? Because He added that, "But my righteousness will last forever, my salvation through all generations.” (Isaiah 51:8). As long as you're in Christ, the legal right is given you to be a righteous person, but outside Him, there's no righteousness.

Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth (John 17:17).

║▌│█║▌│ █║▌│█│║
The truth of God’s Word is not subject to personal preference. You don’t accept one part and reject another. God’s Word is absolute truth; it’s complete, consistent, and dependable. Sadly, there’re those who say they don’t believe certain parts of the Bible, for example, the ascension of Jesus Christ. You’re not a Christian if you don’t believe that Jesus ascended to heaven.

The Scriptures clearly reveal that He was taken up into heaven. Recall the words of the angel to the disciples in Acts 1:11, “…Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.” That wasn’t symbolic; it happened; it’s an undeniable reality: The Lord Jesus ascended into heaven.

Before Him, there was Enoch (Hebrews 11:5), and Elijah (read 2 Kings 2:9-11); these two were caught up into heaven. These were real events, showing you that God’s dealings are consistent and His Word is dependable. So, if someone questions one part of the Word, where does it stop?

If, as a Christian, you don’t believe that Jesus ascended to heaven, then it means you also don’t believe that there’s a heaven because one of the reasons we're going to heaven is what Jesus said in His prayer to the Father in John 17:24, “Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am….”

He wants us to see heaven and see that everything He told us was true. He wants us to come and actually participate in what happens in heaven and then come back with Him to rule the nations for one thousand years before the Judgment. Hallelujah! So, the Scriptures reveal that heaven is real.

Your life in Christ is not limited to this present world. There’s a future with Him. Therefore, believe the Word in its entirety; don’t be selective with truth. Don’t build your faith on theories or assumptions of men. Receive the Word fully and build your life on the whole counsel of God’s truth.
