HOW FRENCH SENTENCE ORDER CAN CHANGE THE MEANING. Let's Practice Together!
Hey friends!
Are you ready for a quick French mini-class?
Let us talk about sentence order, it is super important and can totally change what you say.
So, in English, word order is usually:
Subject + Verb + Object
e.g., I eat apples.
But in French, sometimes the adjective comes after the noun, not before!
Let us try:
Translate this: "A red car"
Is it:
a) une rouge voiture
b) une voiture rouge
Drop your answer in the comment and come back to the post.
The answer is (b) une voiture rouge.
Because in French, most adjectives come after the noun.
Now your turn again:
How would you say "A big house" in French?
Type your answer in the comment!
You might be asking, why does this matter?
Getting this right will make your French sound natural and help you avoid confusing your listeners.
Tell us, do you want more quick lessons like this?
Comment "Yes" and share what you want to learn next!
PRONUNCIATION HACK:
For "rouge" (red), say it like roozh, soft and smooth, not harsh.

HOW TO GREET PEOPLE IN FRENCH LIKE A NATIVE (and avoid awkward mistakes)
Bonjour, language lovers!
Let us kick off the week by learning one of the most important parts of communication: GREETINGS
If you are learning French, chances are you've said "Bonjour" before. But did you know there are different ways to greet people depending on the time of day, your relationship, and the situation?
Let's break it down together 👇
Basic Greetings You MUST Know
Bonjour : Good morning / Hello (until evening)
Bonsoir : Good evening
Salut : Hi (casual)
Coucou : Hey there! (very informal, used with friends/family)
Now COMMON MISTAKES TO AVOID are:
- Saying "Bonsoir" in the morning
- Using "Salut" with strangers or older people
- Not greeting someone at all (In French culture, greetings are mandatory before starting a conversation)
WHEN AND HOW TO USE EACH ONE
- Morning to evening: "Bonjour, madame"
Perfect for polite or professional settings
- After 6 PM: "Bonsoir, monsieur"
Especially when entering a shop or meeting someone in the evening.
- With friends or younger people: "Salut, ça va?"
Super casual and friendly
- Very close relationships: "Coucou!"
Playful and intimate
Bravo! You've learnt a lot.
Now, it's your Turn!
Drop a greeting in the comments based on this situation:
You just walked into a bakery in cotonou at 10 AM. What do you say?
Let us practice like we are in class! 👇

3. Dire "Please", "Thank you" et "Excuse me" :

Good morning: Bonjour (le matin)
Hello, how are you? : Bonjour, comment ça va ?
Nice to meet you. : Enchanté(e)
Salutations informelles (avec des amis, en ligne ou dans un cadre détendu) :
Hey! : Salut !
What’s up? : Quoi de neuf ? / Ça va ?
Hi there! : Salut toi !
Erreur fréquente :
Dire “Good night” pour dire bonjour, en anglais, “Good night” = Bonne nuit, on l’utilise seulement pour dire au revoir le soir, pas pour commencer une conversation !
Mini activité interactive :
1. Écris un exemple de salutation formelle (avec ton patron ou professeur).
2. Puis écris une salutation informelle (avec un ami ou cousin).
Poste ta réponse en commentaire et on te corrigerai si besoin !
(Hack de prononciation : “What’s up?” se prononce souvent comme “Wassup”. C’est très rapide et relâché – parfait pour parler avec des jeunes natifs.)

GESTURES & POLITENESS IN FRENCH CULTURE
Hello again, language explorers!
Did you know that in France, how you move your hands or nod your head can say just as much as your words?
Today, let’s explore the hidden rules of gestures and polite behavior in French culture.
1. La Bise – The Kiss-Kiss Greeting
In France, people don’t usually hug when greeting. Instead, they kiss on the cheeks called “la bise.”
Depending on the region, it could be 2, 3, or even 4 kisses! (But don’t worry, strangers don’t expect it.)
2. Handshakes are Formal
In professional settings, a light handshake is the norm. Not too strong, not too soft. Make eye contact!
3. Don’t Shout or Wave
Loud voices or big waves to say “hi” in public may feel friendly to you, but in France it can feel… too much.
Instead, try a simple nod and soft “Bonjour.”
4. Table Manners Matter
Keep both hands visible on the table (not in your lap!)
Never start eating before everyone is served
Always say “Bon appétit!” before eating
Now, Mini Challenge:
Imagine you’re meeting your French friend’s family for dinner.
How do you greet them?
What should you NOT do?
Share your answers in the comments, let’s see how many etiquette pros we have in this class!
(Pronunciation Hack: “La bise” is pronounced “la beez.” Soft ‘s’ like in ease. Smile when saying it, it makes it sound more natural.)

FRENCH GREETINGS & FIRST IMPRESSIONS
Bonjour, everyone!
Today, we’re going beyond the “hello” into the heart of how the French greet each other and what it really means.
Let’s start here:
Imagine you walk into a café in Paris.
What’s the FIRST thing you should say?
If your answer isn’t “Bonjour”, don’t be surprised if you get a cold look!
In French culture, greetings are sacred.
Saying “Bonjour” isn’t optional, it’s a sign of respect.
Even a stranger on the street deserves a polite “Bonjour” if you're going to ask for directions.
Here's how it works:
Bonjour (Good day) : used until about 6PM
Bonsoir (Good evening) : from 6PM onward
Salut : very casual, reserved for friends
Enchanté(e) : when meeting someone for the first time, it means “Nice to meet you”
Now it’s your turn!
Practice Activity:
Write in the comments:
You enter a bakery. Greet the baker and ask for a croissant politely.
Example: Bonjour madame, je voudrais un croissant, s’il vous plaît.
Cultural Tip:
If you skip the greeting, you may be perceived as rude, even if you speak perfect French. It’s not just what you say, it’s how you begin.
(Pronunciation Hack: “Bonjour” is pronounced “bohn-zhoor.” Make the ‘n’ nasal and soft. Smile as you say it, it helps your mouth relax into the French flow.)
