The United Nations General Assembly adopted resolution A/80/L.104 entitled “Correct the Map” introduced by Togo on behalf of the African Group. The resolution calls for abandoning the Mercator projection in favor of equal-area maps, such as the Equal Earth projection, which accurately reflects Africa’s true size.

L’Assemblée générale des Nations Unies a adopté la résolution A/80/L.104 intitulée “Correct the Map”, présentée par le Togo au nom du Groupe africain. Elle encourage l’abandon de la projection de Mercator au profit de cartes à superficies égales, telles que Equal Earth, qui reflètent la véritable dimension de l’Afrique.

The United Nations System in Burundi held a Town Hall meeting bringing together all UN personnel to discuss key priorities, issues affecting staff, and the need to maintain ethical standards and practices at work. The meeting provided an opportunity for open dialogue and direct engagement with the UN Country Team and the staff association, fostering team work and reinforcing momentum in support of Burundi.

Le Système des Nations Unies au Burundi a tenu un Town Hall réunissant l’ensemble de son personnel autour des priorités clés, des enjeux concernant le personnel et de la nécessité de maintenir des normes et pratiques éthiques au travail. La rencontre a offert un espace de dialogue ouvert et d’échange direct avec l’Équipe pays des Nations Unies et l’Association du personnel, favorisant l’esprit d’équipe et renforçant l’élan collectif en soutien au Burundi.

🇧🇮 From local production to better nutrition: strengthening fortified foods in Burundi

Together with KfW Bankengruppe , the Centre National de Technologie Alimentaire(CNTA) and national partners, World Food Programme conducted a joint field visit to community milling and food fortification units in Kirundo, Karusi, Rutana and Ruyigi. The visit confirmed that investments in local food transformation are generating lasting results.

✅ All seven supported units remain operational and continue producing fortified flour.
✅ Local operators have developed the skills needed to maintain equipment and sustain production.
✅ Consumers increasingly recognize and demand fortified flour due to its nutritional and quality benefits.
✅ The Centre d’Enseignement des Métiers in Karusi alone produced 24 tonnes of fortified flour between January and August 2026, including nearly 18 tonnes used in school meals programmes.

This initiative shows how strong partnerships between the Government of Burundi, WFP, KfW and CNTA can support local value chains, strengthen food systems and contribute to the fight against malnutrition. The experience also demonstrates the important role that local food processors can play in supplying nutritious foods for school feeding and community nutrition programmes.

The UN Resident Coordinator in Burundi, Violet Kakyomya met with Mr. Gerton van den Akker, the new Chargé d’Affaires of the Netherlands in Burundi. They discussed on going programmes of cooperation and new opportunities for collaboration on sustainable development in Burundi.............................................................

Ils ont échangé sur les programmes de coopération en cours et les nouvelles opportunités de collaboration en matière de développement durable au Burundi.

Ahead of the 2027 presidential elections in Burundi, the Independent Electoral Commission (CENI) organized a briefing session for all national and international stakeholders to update on the preparatory process. Discussions focused on the new electoral mapping, voter registration, mapping of polling centers, as well as on mechanisms ensuring the inclusion of people with disabilities.

À l’approche de l’élection présidentielle de 2027 au Burundi, la Commission Électorale Nationale Indépendante (CENI) a organisé une séance d’information à l’intention de l’ensemble des parties prenantes nationales et internationales afin de faire le point sur le processus préparatoire. Les échanges ont porté sur la nouvelle cartographie électorale, l’enrôlement des électeurs, la localisation des centres de vote, ainsi que sur les mécanismes garantissant l’inclusion des personnes vivant avec handicap.

SWAN, Special Representative of the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO) and Mr. Huang Xia, the Special Envoy of the UN Secretary-General for the Great Lakes region, currently in visit to Burundi met with developing partners. They discussed overall situation in the subregion and Monusco its mandate.

Après de vastes consultations, le Secrétaire général publie son rapport sur l’examen de toutes les formes d’opérations de paix des Nations Unies, y compris les opérations de maintien de la paix et les missions politiques spéciales. Cet examen appelle à un changement fondamental dans la manière dont nous concevons et utilisons les opérations de paix, notamment en accordant une attention accrue aux efforts de consolidation de la paix, en renforçant les partenariats avec les États hôtes, en mettant en place des mandats plus ciblés et adaptables, ainsi qu’en rendant les opérations plus souples et plus réactives.
