On May 31, 2024, ELC awarded certificates in language proficiency to 129 laureates from the East African Nutritional Sciences Institute (EANSI). After about one year of training, 128 mainly from Burundi and the DRC got certificates in English language proficiency and the remaining one from Tanzania received a certificate after completing French language classes. Those laureates are Masters' Degree students of Cohort I and Cohort II of EANSI
The special event was hosted at the University of Burundi.
"We are grateful to EANSI for choosing us (ELC) to train their students. Created in 1996, ELC is the oldest center teaching the English Language program. We're the number one center in Burundi. ELC inherited equipment with the closure of the American Cultural Center of the U.S. embassy in Burundi. ELC has a lot of experience in the English language teaching. Our teachers benefited several updated training programs like the Williams Academy project," said Sadi Niyungeko, APLA-ELC Legal Representative.
According to him, APLA-ELC trained so many Burundian and non-Burundian people in 28 years of various age and working categories.
For his part, Prof. Melance Ntunzwenimana, EANSI coordinator, expressed his satisfaction about the training provided by the ELC.
"English is very important worldwide, especially in the east African region. If you master English, research will become easy. We hope that acquired skills will help our students express themselves in English," said the EANSI coordinator.
He expressed his gratefulness towards the African Development Bank which funded the program, adding that EANSI will continue to partner with ELC.
"We will send the EANSI teaching staff and the third cohort to ELC to be trained by you," said Prof. Ntunzwenimana.
