From its modest beginnings in a villa in 1961, St Christopher's has grown into a large, internationally renowned, non-profit school with over 2300 students from more than seventy nations. These children and young people, from three to eighteen years of age, benefit from the excellence, dedication and hard work of our teachers and support staff who together form a team dedicated to the creation and maintenance of an environment in which each student can learn effectively.

Our Sixth Form celebrates a fantastic achievement today. Of the 41 students who completed an Extended Project Qualification, a remarkable 56% were awarded an A or A* grade. This represents a true reflection of their hard work and dedication.

The EPQ (Extended Project Qualification) is a stand alone qualification designed to challenge students' skills outside their other academic qualifications. It is widely recognised as the equivalent to half an A-level with increasing numbers of universities recognising the value of this award.

As we continue our new post series getting to know the amazing team at St Chris, this week we introduce Alumni Co-ordinator and Geography Teacher, Barry Hobday.

Where are you from?
I was born in Cyprus but I am joint English and Irish from Derby, UK

How many years have you been with St Chris?
27

What qualifications do you hold?
A BA Hons Joint Degree in Geography & Economics together with a PGCE, both from the University of Hull, UK.

What makes you passionate about teaching?
I love making a difference to young people’s lives and believe in the words of Sir John Jones that we are all ‘Magic Weavers’ every single day we are with young learners!

What makes you passionate about working at St Chris?
I look forward to getting up in the morning because I am passionate about teaching Geography to young minds and encouraging them to study a subject that involves everything around them.

Who is your role model?
My role model in my formative years was Brian Clough as manager of Derby County because he was the most outspoken and influential person in my life at that time. Now, it is probably Sir Clive Woodward with his theory of marginal gains that led England to the Rugby World Cup in Australia back in 2003.

What is something interesting or unexpected about you that others at St Chris might not know?
I once parachuted out of an airplane for charity and was the only person that day to land exactly in the middle of the X marking the landing spot! A pure fluke of course!

Describe your perfect day outside of work?
Just playing golf with my family, especially with my son at Royal Golf Club and occasionally with my wife at Awali Golf Club!

What message or piece of advice would you like to share with the St Chris community?
Just try your best to improve by an incremental amount in whatever it is that you do…and remember that everyday is a HOBDAY!

In the lead up to our Festive House Assembly last Thursday, the naughty elves had taken Santa’s clothes and hung them around school. Luckily, our House mascots were gathering the clothes each day. We just didn’t know where they had put them. Today, our helpers, dressed as a turkey, a present, a snowman and a Christmas tree, completed several challenges as a team to find Santa’s clothes and save the day!
