A few years ago, I went through the worse depressive spiral of my entire 20+ years of living with depression. Fortunately, I was able to identify my triggers and I put it all out there on YouTube in hopes to help someone else identify theirs, so they didn’t feel like they were going through it alone.
It’s not about being calm all the time, it’s going to be emotional and messy. Here’s my 3 step process:
1 - meeting yourself where you are by having awareness to allow your feelings and emotions to come up.
2 – acceptance of where you are and meeting yourself there without guilt, shame or judgement.
3 – taking action to change by showing up to do the work.
Here’s the 5 things I did to start this 3 step process:
1 - Mindful and purposeful movement of my body. It doesn’t have to be a hard or strenuous workout – in fact, most cases, it shouldn’t be. That will only add to the stress your body is already under. There is no set amount of time, it could even be a walk. Just move your body.
2 – Breathwork. The technique will depend on what you need, it can be calming or activating. This can be a simple 2 minute practice, if you don’t know where to start, message me and we can chat about what might work for you.
3 - Be in the sun, get dirty. Being in nature allows for fresh air, sunshine that gives your body vitamins and energy (yes, you are just like the plants). Get your feet on bare ground or dig your hands in the soil/sand – grounding is revitalizing!
4 – Prioritize rest. Not all rest is the same. I’ll be sharing more about this in a later post, but here’s the cliff notes – there is physical, mental, emotional, social, sensory, creative, and spiritual rest.

Flashback to November 3, 2021: I remember waking up from surgery and being able to breathe. It brought tears to my eyes knowing if this was the only improvement I would have, it was all worth it. Fortunately MORE happened...
Day 5 post explant update!!
1️⃣ I have felt well enough to have stopped taking my pain meds 3 days ago. I know I'm not like many, but I prefer to feel my body as it is recovering and healing. I did the same thing for my second back surgery, stopped pain meds the day after leaving the hospital. I have a history of taking pain meds and then because I "feel" ok, I do more than my body is ready for. In order to not run into that problem, I just don't take the pain meds longer than I feel I need to.
2️⃣ Since I woke up from surgery, the tingling and numbness in my right arm and hand has not happened.
3️⃣ Also since I woke up from surgery, there has been no pain in my right chest, neck or shoulder. At first I thought it could be because of the pain meds, but I have continued to not have pain even after I stopped the pain meds. This was my number one symptom and the main reason why I wanted my implants out.
I know this is just the beginning and I also know my body is going to go through many detox waves. Mentally I have prepared for the changes I might see and am managing my expectations. I'm sure there will be hard days, along with good days.

So I did a thing...
After several people reached out to me following my last few posts, I created a WhatsApp community, then I decided this morning that wasn't going to be as impactful as I wanted it to be. You know me, if I'm doing it, I'm all in.
So, I created a private membership community (away from the distractions and drama of social media). You can access it from a computer or on an app.
This community is for anyone who is wanting to consume less alcohol - whether that means completely abstaining or just cutting back. As someone who has been through some very dark places because of alcohol to now being alcohol free for over 12 years, I've got some wisdom to share.

This is your reminder that you DON'T need to believe the BS that as you get older, it's normal to suck down ibuprofen because you're always in pain. Don't think it's normal to always be tired or always feeling rundown or sick. Please don't be convinced that you need to rely on our healthcare system to keep you healthy! You might have even been told you are too old to set goals...
In fact, swipe to see that there are PLENTY of things you can do that don't even cost a thing to keep your body from "falling apart".
