The aim of the project is to motivate students and give them practical knowledge for saving the Danube river The aim of the project is to motivate students and give them practical knowledge for saving the Danube river. We will encourage them to involve in this project their families, neighbors, local authorities and friends from other schools. In so doing, it is our hope that all participants will become active and more responsible citizens concerning the future of our river; that they will start recycling waste and become ecologically conscious citizens. Students will learn how to work in a team, how to undertake a task and how to take responsibility. The project’s goals are sustainable development and positive effects on the life of our town. Pursuant to our approval, the project would begin in November 2011 and last for six months, until May 2012. First, the students will create a Facebook group, “For the Blue Danube”. They will create the project logo and will announce its musical motto. Other planned activities include:
• Interviewing people from different backgrounds about the Danube’s role in their lives;
• The students will research practical solutions to water pollution.
• In March they will make a comic strip "The Story of The Blue Danube", based on their research. To make the comic strip students will use web 2.0 tool – Storybird. It will be uploaded onto Facebook and our school’s web site and then printed as a booklet. The project will end with a big event on the town’s beach, near the Baba Vida Fortress, featuring Bulgarian and Romanian folk dances native to the villages along the Danube. At this festival, we will also present the comic strip, "The Story of the Blue Danube," while listening to Strauss’ timeless waltz. Another key feature of the gathering will be cleaning up our Danube beach. If our project is approved, from September 2012 we plan to start an e-Twinning project “Let’s put the ‘blue’ back in ‘the Blue Danube’” with schools from Romania, Slovenia, Austria and Serbia to provide sustainable development for our project.
