The European Commission has announced a major overhaul of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) for 2028–2034, marking a bold shift toward sustainability and resilience in Europe’s farms.
Under the new proposal, farmers will move from ticking boxes to proving real environmental results with payments directly tied to protecting soil, water, and biodiversity. A new farm stewardship model will replace the older rules, giving countries flexibility while demanding actual accountability
This is a redefinition of Europe’s relationship with the land. From greener fields to smarter food systems, the CAP aims to power innovation, training, and knowledge-sharing across the sector
For educators and schools, it’s a moment to connect the dots: how climate, food, and learning intertwine and how classrooms can inspire the next generation of sustainable thinkers. 🌍
This direction indirectly supports initiatives like the ECO‑SAGA project, which empowers youth and educational communities to engage in sustainable food systems and living and environmental leadership.

An Eco Club is a group of students working together to make their school more environmentally friendly. Whether it's organizing recycling programs, planting trees, reducing waste, or raising awareness, these clubs create real, positive change in the school community.
💡 How to Start One?
Find Like-Minded Students: Start with a few people who care about the environment and generally seem like they enjoy ecology, sustainability, recycling or even just biology.
Choose a Focus: Decide what matters most to your group. Maybe it's clean-ups in the area, composting and recycling campaigns in school, reducing plastic in the daily lives of students, etc.
Plan Activities: Begin with simple projects, maybe a diy composting bin, creation of an information poster campaign or just a collective lesson-discussion.
Involve the Entire School: Get support from other teachers and talk to school staff for collaboration.
🌟 Why It’s Worth It:
You Learn by Doing – You’ll build teamwork, leadership, and practical skills while making a difference.
You Change Your Space – A cleaner, greener school boosts pride and makes everyone feel more connected.
You Understand the Issues – Being part of a club helps you see how small actions can impact big global problems.
💚 Why does it matter for everyone - the entire school and outer community:
This is a movement. Even students who aren't in the club benefit from the changes. Eco Clubs show that caring for the planet is important, and they help build a school culture where sustainability is something we all take seriously and proudly. By having such a club everyone sees that people care about the issues with the environment, motivating them to care as well.
Give it a go - no matter if you're a student or teacher😽

What if we told you that plants don’t need soil to grow? Hydroponics is a revolutionary method of farming where plants grow in a nutrient-rich water solution instead of soil. This technique is changing the way we think about agriculture, offering a sustainable, space-saving, and tech-driven solution to food production. 🌿
How Does Hydroponics Work?
Instead of relying on soil to deliver nutrients, hydroponic systems use alternative growing mediums such as:
🔹Water (Deep Water Culture - roots are fully submerged)
🔹Coconut fiber (organic, sustainable, and moisture-retaining)
🔹Rockwool (a mineral fiber that provides excellent aeration)
🔹Clay pebbles & Perlite (lightweight, absorbent, and reusable)
Why is Hydroponics Important?
🌍 Saves up to 90% more water than traditional farming
🌆 Can be done anywhere - from small urban spaces to deserts
🚜 Faster plant growth and higher yields
🌱 Reduces pesticide use, making food healthier and more eco-friendly
💡 Integrates technology - with automated watering, LED lighting, and sensors to monitor growth
Hydroponics in the Classroom: A Hands-on Sustainability Lesson
Imagine building a small hydroponic system with your students! This topic is a perfect blend of science, technology, sustainability, and problem-solving. You can explore:
🔬 Biology & plant nutrition - How do plants absorb nutrients without soil?
💡 Engineering & design thinking - Can students build their own simple hydroponic system?
📊 Technology & monitoring - How do sensors and automation help farming?
🌍 Environmental science - How can hydroponics help fight food insecurity and climate change?
📚 Classroom Challenge:
Encourage students to design a hydroponic farm for their home. Could they grow food in an urban environment? How can this DIY project be presented with digital tools?
