The deadline is almost here. Applications for the NOVA EMBA Scholarships close on October 4.

For Vanya Trendafilova, the third recipient of the scholarship, applying meant taking the next step in both her professional development and an initiative designed to bring Bulgarian farms closer to people who care about healthy living.

“I applied for the NOVA EMBA Scholarship because I think it’s a great opportunity to continue my career development and build on what I’ve learned so far. The project came about spontaneously and, in my opinion, is the missing link that will unite Bulgarian farms with people of all ages who believe in a healthy lifestyle.”

The NOVA EMBA Scholarships, a joint initiative of American University in Bulgaria and Nova Broadcasting Group, support professionals who want to develop impactful business and social initiatives while advancing their leadership skills through the AUBG Executive MBA.

This year, two 50% scholarships will be awarded, one in each track:

A career can evolve in unexpected ways when new people bring new perspectives into it.

When Maria Bozhilova (EMBA ’16) joined the AUBG Executive MBA, she had already built a successful career. What changed was the perspective, much of it shaped by the people she met along the way, which eventually helped her take the leap into entrepreneurship.

For Jane Dimitrova Dimirova (EMBA ’26), the second winner of the NOVA EMBA Scholarship and founder of Foodobox, the AUBG Executive MBA helped her look at an already established business through a new lens, translating operational experience into measurable impact and evidence-based decision-making.

What can start with one idea?

For Boyan Nedyalkov (EMBA '25), the first winner of the NOVA EMBA Scholarship in 2023, it started with a challenge that can have life-saving consequences: unequal access to cancer screening.

His initiative focuses on developing mobile cancer screening clinics that can reach remote areas of Bulgaria, where access to specialists and appropriate medical facilities is limited.

“I’m confident that the EMBA program at AUBG is the ideal place to connect with great individuals, exchange ideas and experiences, and achieve success together. That is why I am doing it, and that is why you should do it too!”

Experience can take you far, but it can also become a comfort zone.

For Petar Torneff (EMBA ’20), Managing Director at a technology company, founder of Vovinto, and AUBG Executive MBA lecturer, staying relevant as a leader means remaining constantly curious and willing to keep learning.

“You need the humility to remain a student,” he says.

The philosophy of curiosity has guided his entire journey, and as AI transforms the way we work, Torneff believes that lifelong learning has become even more important.

“The future that interests me is not AI versus people,” he says. “It is people who know how to work intelligently and responsibly with AI and who use it to create value that was previously out of reach.”

For previous NOVA EMBA Scholarship winners Boyan Nedyalkov, Vanya Trendafilova, and Jane Dimitrova-Kerkova, the answer includes confidence, new perspectives, a strong professional network, and a more structured way of turning ideas into action.

Their scholarship projects addressed very different challenges, including access to cancer screening, connections between consumers and local farmers, and food waste. Their AUBG Executive MBA journeys, however, share something important: each challenged them to rethink assumptions, learn from people with different experiences, and develop as leaders.
