We are thrilled to announce that Prof. Elias Papaioannou will be the keynote speaker at the Fourth Annual Conference of the Bulgarian Council for Economic Analyses, taking place on June 22-23, 2026, in Sofia.

Prof. Papaioannou is a Professor of Economics at London Business School, where he serves as the Alexander Knaster Chair in Economics and Academic Director of the Wheeler Institute for Business and Development. His research spans international finance, political economy, applied econometrics, growth, and development. His work is published in leading academic journals, including Nature, Econometrica, Review of Economic Studies, Quarterly Journal of Economics, Journal of Political Economy, American Economic Review, and Journal of Finance.

Prof. Papaioannou has previously held positions at the European Central Bank, Dartmouth College, and Harvard University, and was the Varian Visiting Professor of Economics at MIT. He is also a Joint Managing Editor of the Review of Economic Studies, a Fellow of the British Academy, and a CEPR Research Fellow. His research has been recognized with a Consolidator Grant from the European Research Council, the inaugural European Investment Bank Young Economist Award, the European Economic Association’s Young Economist Award, and the Royal Economic Association’s Austin Robinson Memorial Prize.

We are happy to share that Assoc. Prof. Kaloyan Ganev (AEEM) has published Applied Statistics with R - a comprehensive university-level textbook, now available in open access.

Written in Bulgarian, the book reflects years of teaching, research, and applied analytical work. We are proud to see this important contribution to data-driven education in Bulgaria.

Published by Sofia University Press, the book offers a comprehensive university-level framework for applied statistics using R - from data handling and probability theory to statistical inference, regression modelling (including GLM), and time series analysis (ARIMA, SARIMA, exponential smoothing).
