A story by Sofia Stancheva from class 6.G earned a place among the works of her peers in the publication Climate Resilience Daily 2026. On the pages of the magazine, students from across the country share their views on how the world will develop over the next 30 years and how the goals of the European Green Deal will be achieved.

Today, at “Georgi Benkovski” Primary School in Burgas, the final products of the project “Eco Innovators in STEM”, implemented under the Erasmus+ programme, were presented.

The curriculum was developed in collaboration with Norwegian partners from “Prios Kompetens” and is aimed at teachers working at the lower secondary level. It is available on the project website after registration: https://ecoinnovators.eu

Students Ivayla Nikolova (7th grade, class V), Georgi Stoyanov (7th grade, class 😎, and Mihail Sariyski (7th grade, class V) took an active part in the presentation, demonstrating three applications developed specifically for the Burgas region.

The applications created are intuitive and focus on topics such as biodiversity in Burgas, climate change, and STEM education.

The “Eco Innovators in STEM” project demonstrates a successful model of collaboration between students, teachers, and international partners, aimed at developing key skills and sustainable thinking among young people.

“Eco Innovators in STEM” is a bridge between knowledge and the real world—between science, technology, and responsibility toward nature. It is a project that teaches students not only to know, but also to think, to create, and to be active citizens of a more sustainable future.

Behind this success stands a team united by a shared cause. The team includes Mr. Petko Georgiev – Principal and Project Manager, Ms. Krastina Komogorova – Coordinator, and the inspiring teachers Ralitsa Kraynova, Elena Georgieva, Todorka Zenginova, and Tanya Koleva.

Today, we showed that when there is vision, dedication, and teamwork, the results exceed expectations.

This is only the beginning.

Project “Eco Innovators in STEM” – Mission: Protecting Our Planet

Students from Primary School “Georgi Benkovski”, Burgas carried out an inspiring activity within the project “Eco Innovators in STEM”, dedicated to sustainable development, environmental protection, and building responsible attitudes toward the world around us.

Special guests at the event were representatives of UNICEF, who introduced students to important topics related to caring for people, protecting the environment, and the role of young people in creating a better future.

The meeting focused on the topic “Mission Protection – Why is it important to protect our planet and the people living on it?” Students actively participated in discussions and activities that helped them understand the connection between people, nature, and sustainable living.

Topics discussed included:
• Why is protecting the environment important?
• How do our daily habits affect nature?
• How can we become more responsible with natural resources?
• How can science, technology, and innovation contribute to a cleaner world?

Students reached the conclusion that protecting the planet means caring for people and our future. We all want to live peacefully and in harmony, and this begins with small actions and responsible choices today.

The “Eco Innovators in STEM” project showed that when students are active, curious, and united around a meaningful cause, they can become true drivers of positive change.

Учениците от ОУ „Георги Бенковски“ – гр. Бургас реализираха вдъхновяваща дейност по проекта „Еко иноватори в STEM“, посветена на устойчивото развитие, опазването на околната среда и изграждането на отговорно отношение към света около нас.

Специални гости на събитието бяха представители на UNICEF, които запознаха учениците с важни теми, свързани с грижата за хората, опазването на природата и ролята на младите хора в създаването на по-добро бъдеще.

Темата на срещата беше „Мисия опазване – защо е важно да пазим планетата и хората, които живеят в нея?“ Учениците участваха активно в разговори и дейности, чрез които осмислиха връзката между човека, природата и устойчивия начин на живот.

По време на инициативата бяха обсъдени въпроси като:
• Защо е важно да пазим околната среда?
• Как нашите ежедневни навици влияят върху природата?
• Как можем да бъдем по-отговорни към ресурсите около нас?
• Как науката, технологиите и иновациите могат да допринесат за един по-чист свят?

Учениците стигнаха до извода, че опазването на планетата означава грижа за хората и за бъдещето ни. Всички искаме да живеем спокойно, здравословно и в хармония, а това започва с малките действия и отговорните решения още днес.

Проектът „Еко иноватори в STEM“ показа, че когато учениците са активни, любознателни и обединени около добра кауза, те могат да бъдат истински двигатели на положителна промяна.

ECO INNOVATORS IN STEM – THE SECRETS OF THE BLACK SEA

An Initiative Supported by Greenpeace at “Georgi Benkovski” Primary School – Burgas

At “Georgi Benkovski” Primary School in Burgas, students are becoming true eco innovators through the project “Eco Innovators in STEM” — a project that inspires young people to seek solutions for a cleaner and more sustainable future.

One of the most exciting initiatives within the project was dedicated to the secrets of the Black Sea and its protection, inspired by educational resources from Greenpeace. Students immersed themselves in the magical world of the sea — a world full of life, mystery, and beauty.

The Black Sea is one of the most unique seas in the world. It holds ancient stories in its depths and is home to diverse marine species. Yet behind the beautiful waves lie serious challenges — plastic pollution, coastal waste, and dangers threatening marine life.

During the initiative, students explored how human activity affects marine ecosystems. Through STEM activities, interactive tasks, and creative projects, they searched for innovative solutions to protect nature. The children developed ideas for reducing waste, learned more about recycling, and discussed how every individual can help save the sea.

The most valuable lesson was realizing that great change begins with small actions. Every good idea, every act of care for nature, and every step toward a cleaner environment matters.

The project “Eco Innovators in STEM” proves that when science, education, and environmental awareness work together, students can not only dream of a better world — they can help create it.

В ОУ „Георги Бенковски“ – гр. Бургас учениците се превръщат в истински еко иноватори чрез проекта „Еко иноватори в STEM“ – проект, който вдъхновява младите хора да търсят решения за едно по-чисто и устойчиво бъдеще.

Една от най-вълнуващите инициативи в рамките на проекта бе посветена на тайните на Черно море и неговото опазване, с вдъхновение и образователни ресурси от Грийнпийс. Учениците се потопиха в магичния свят на морето – свят, изпълнен с живот, загадки и красота.

Черно море е едно от най-специалните морета в света. То пази древни истории в своите дълбини и е дом на разнообразни морски видове. Но зад красивите вълни се крият и сериозни проблеми – замърсяване с пластмаса, отпадъци по крайбрежието и опасности за морските обитатели.

По време на инициативата учениците изследваха как човешката дейност влияе върху морската екосистема. Чрез STEM дейности, интерактивни задачи и творчески проекти те търсиха иновативни решения за опазване на природата. Децата създадоха идеи за намаляване на отпадъците, научиха повече за рециклирането и обсъдиха как всеки човек може да помогне за спасяването на морето.

Най-ценният урок беше осъзнаването, че голямата промяна започва от малките действия. Всяка добра идея, всяка грижа към природата и всяка стъпка към по-чиста околна среда са важни.

Проектът „Еко иноватори в STEM“ показва, че когато науката, образованието и екологичното мислене вървят ръка за ръка, учениците могат не само да мечтаят за по-добър свят, но и да бъдат негови създатели.

Who knew that old T-shirts and forgotten clothes hidden in the closet could become real superheroes?

As part of the project “Eco Innovators in STEM”, we gave our old clothes a brand-new mission under the motto “Give New Life to Old Clothes.” What once looked like “just old fabric” suddenly turned into creative and useful handmade items full of color, imagination, and smiles.

Yes… we may miss some of our favorite old clothes a little. But honestly, we are much happier knowing they became part of something truly special.

Thanks to this initiative, we raised and donated €700 to help 10-year-old Rumi — a brave boy who already defeated illness once like a true champion. Today, he is once again fighting for his life and urgently needs treatment for a second chance.

So maybe those old clothes didn’t end up in the trash after all… maybe they turned into hope.

This project reminded us that even small ideas can make a huge difference when they are made with kind hearts, creativity, and teamwork.

We are all cheering for you, Rumi! Keep fighting like the superhero you are! ❤️

Кой би предположил, че старите тениски и забравените дрехи в гардероба могат да се превърнат в истински супергерои?

По проекта „Еко иноватори в STEM“ дадохме на старите дрехи съвсем нова мисия под мотото „Дай нов живот на стара дреха“. Това, което някога изглеждаше като „просто стари платове“, се превърна в красиви и полезни ръчно изработени предмети, пълни с цвят, въображение и усмивки.

Да, признаваме си… малко ще ни липсват любимите стари дрехи. Но сме много по-щастливи, защото знаем, че станаха част от нещо истински специално.

Благодарение на инициативата успяхме да съберем и дарим 700 евро в помощ на 10-годишния Руми — едно смело момче, което вече веднъж е победило болестта като истински шампион. Днес той отново се бори за живота си и има нужда от спешно лечение, за да получи своя втори шанс.

Така старите дрехи не просто получиха нов живот… те се превърнаха в надежда.

Този проект ни показа, че дори малките идеи могат да правят големи чудеса, когато са създадени с добри сърца, въображение и желание да помогнем.

The students of “Georgi Benkovski” Primary School actively participated in activities under the “Eco Innovators in STEM” project, focused on environmental protection and developing ecological awareness.

During their Technology and Entrepreneurship classes, the seventh-grade students planted lilacs in the school yard, while the sixth-grade students gave new life to textile materials by turning them into handmade wallets and fabric pouches.

The topic of birds and their protection also sparked great interest among the students. They learned more about different bird species, their role in nature, and the importance of protecting the environment.

Through these initiatives, the students demonstrated creativity, responsibility, and a strong desire to take an active role in caring for nature.

Учениците от ОУ „Георги Бенковски“ активно се включиха в дейности по проект „Еко иноватори в STEM“, насочени към опазването на природата и развиването на екологично мислене.

По време на часовете по технологии и предприемачество седмокласниците засадиха люляци в двора на училището, а учениците от 6. клас вдъхнаха нов живот на текстилни материали, като ги превърнаха в ръчно ушити портмоненца и кисийки.

Интерес сред учениците предизвика и темата за птиците и тяхната защита. Децата научиха повече за различните видове птици, за тяхната роля в природата и за необходимостта да пазим околната среда.

С тези инициативи учениците показаха креативност, отговорност и желание да бъдат активни участници в опазването на природата.

At the initiative of Gorata.bg, students from classes 6.B and 6.V at “G. Benkovski” Primary School planted 10 black pines, 10 white spruces, and 10 oaks in the school yard. This took place during their Technology and Entrepreneurship classes. The initiative was held under the motto “Plant a Tree for Christmas.”

По инициатива на Гората бг. деца от 6.Б и 6.В клас на ОУ "Г. Бенковски" засадиха в двора на училището 10 черни бора, 10 бели ели и 10 дъба. Това се случи в часовете по технологии и предприемачество. Инициативата премина под наслов "Засади дърво за Коледа".
