A Bansko lady, 49 years old, tragically slipped to her death under the Vihren Peak yesterday. It’s reported that she fell 400 meters from the Koncheto ridge in the Pirin mountains. Her dog not only survived but guided rescuers to her body. Video shows her being brought back to the gondola car park by helicopter today. 🚁 .

According to the rescuers, the woman most likely slipped and fell. In that section, the trail crosses a snow-covered slope, and without appropriate equipment and self-belaying techniques, the risk is extremely high.
“She sent her message at 7:30 a.m. It is possible that the terrain was still icy at that time. The slope is a combination of snow and rocky ledges, which makes the area exceptionally dangerous. This is one of the main hazards during this period of the season in the Pirin Mountains,” Banenski explained.
The woman was not carrying crampons, but according to the rescuers, she did have good hiking equipment. They noted that the issue was more likely the choice of an unsuitable route for the specific mountain conditions rather than a lack of equipment.
