SICOT SICOT (International Society of Orthopaedic Surgery & Traumatology) is a non-profit association with In 2014, SICOT celebrated its 85th anniversary.

SICOT, Société Internationale de Chirurgie Orthopédique et de Traumatologie, is an international non-profit association incorporated under Belgian law with the aim to promote the advancement of the science and art of orthopaedics and traumatology at international level in particular for the improvement of patient care, and to foster and develop teaching, research and education. The current gatherings of surgeons from 110 member nations and others beside each year are now highly organised scientific, clinical and social events. The expressions of pleasure at meeting friends speak well of the congenial bonds among the members of SICOT. SICOT is setting world standards of surgical competence - knowledge plus clinical skills - by offering an annual Diploma Examination comparable to those of exemplary institutions in highly developed countries. The two highest scoring graduates of this examination are awarded a travelling fellowship from the German Section of SICOT which provides a fully funded tour of the German centres of excellence. The SICOT Journal, International Orthopaedics, has shown steady gains in the Philadelphia-based publication reference rating. SICOT's Manual of Education Objectives is there to guide trainees along a map to the goal of full training. The SICOT group on Facebook and e-Newsletter is used widely for continuous communication among members and interested non-members. It spreads the word, announcements and conversations among members. The SICOT Fellowships offer unique opportunities for education and exchange. The SICOT Foundation helps to provide funds for travel to conferences and to work with masters of surgery in notable teaching centres. Young Surgeons Workshops provide forums for learning from invited experts but of particular importance, they allow young surgeons an opportunity to present their own research to their colleagues. An increasingly successful initiative has been the creation of Orthopaedic Education Centres. They provide an opportunity for education, research and manual skills training. They are open to community surgeons, nurses and physiotherapists. In fact, they can bring a whole orthopaedic community together.

Over the past two years, SICOT’s commitment to global education has continued to grow, creating more opportunities for orthopaedic professionals to learn, connect and share knowledge around the world.

Some highlights include:

🔹 SICOT PIONEER: 127 sessions, more than 147,000 views and almost 11,800 Fan Club members across 162 countries

🔹 SICOT V-Train: New pelvic and acetabular fracture and ACL learning pathways

🔹 PIONEER Virtual Fellowship: A new hybrid model piloted in Cairo and Mumbai

🔹 SICOT SCOPE: First cadaveric-lab partnership launched with Arthrex in Singapore

🔹 SICOT EDGE: A new programme of year-round regional and subspecialty meetings, with its first edition held in Istanbul in February 2026

🔹 SPECTOR: A new exam-preparation programme designed to reduce the cost and travel barriers associated with examinations

🔹 Diploma Examination: Now delivered entirely online

And across it all, 38 global fellowships continue to help share skills, knowledge and ideas across borders.

Education is at the heart of SICOT’s mission, and these initiatives demonstrate what can happen when the global orthopaedic community learns and grows together.

“Presidencies end. Purpose and community continue.”
— Vikas Khanduja, President, SICOT

What if orthopaedic knowledge could cross every border?

It was a question that helped inspire the founding of SICOT in Paris in 1929, when 22 surgeons chose collaboration over distance.

Almost a century later, that same idea remains at the heart of SICOT.

As we look back following the 46th SICOT Orthopaedic World Congress in Kyoto, it is remarkable to see how far the Society has come and how much has changed over the past two years.

From Hanoi to Halifax, Lagos to Lima, SICOT continues to connect orthopaedic professionals across borders through education, research, collaboration and shared knowledge.

But some of the most important progress of the past biennium happened away from the podium.

SICOT has strengthened its foundations, developed new fundraising initiatives to support fellowships, training and research, and built an increasingly global network of people and organisations working together to support the Society's mission.

We are supported by the whole world because we exist to serve the whole world.

Kyoto may have marked the end of this Congress, but it also marks another step forward for SICOT and its global orthopaedic community.

A huge thank you to everyone who has contributed to this journey, from our faculty and delegates to our partners, volunteers, committees and members around the world.

The future is global. And we are building it together 🌍
