The Disappointing Inefficiency of Global "Platforms" – Time for Real Change?

It’s hard not to feel disillusioned with the so-called “platforms”. For decades, they’ve dominated budgets, science, governments, and investors. Yet the results? Disastrous.

Global inequality has widened (Oxfam: the richest 1% captured 63% of all new wealth since 2020), climate targets are missed (IPCC: we’re on track for 2.5–3°C warming), and socio-economic crises persist. These elite gatherings promise transformation but deliver photo-ops and incremental reports, not action.

The truth? Top-down approaches often serve entrenched interests rather than people. At the Club of Brussels, we’re done waiting. We’re championing bottom-up regeneration: empowering local communities to co-create resilient solutions that actually work. From community-led agroforestry in Africa to urban greening in Latin America, grassroots efforts are proving that real change starts at ground level.
