What does it mean to make thinking visible?
In my latest book, Jack and the Plum Bandit, Jack doesn’t just wait to see what happens — he builds a way to find out.
Using simple materials, he turns something we cannot see — vibrations — into something he can detect, interpret, and act on.
This is a small story, but it reflects something much bigger in how children learn.
For many learners, progress depends on making hidden processes accessible — slowing them down, externalising them, and giving them form.
Not just noticing.
But building systems that help us notice better.
The books I’m developing continue to explore this idea:
simple language, with thinking left intact.
