🇪🇸 ¡Del tándem lingüístico Namur–Barcelona a ASELE 2026!
🇫🇷 De notre tandem linguistique Namur–Barcelone à ASELE 2026 !

Aurélie Marsily a récemment représenté le Centre de Langues de l'UNamur (CdL) à ASELE 2026 (Asociación para la Enseñanza del Español como Lengua Extranjera), aux côtés de Lucía Gil De Montes Garín de la Universitat Pompeu Fabra de Barcelone. Organisé cette année à la KU Leuven, ce congrès de référence rassemble des spécialistes de l’enseignement de l’espagnol langue étrangère.

Aurélie et Lucía y ont présenté un poster consacré à leur projet de tandem linguistique réunissant des étudiants de l’Université de Namur et de la Universitat Pompeu Fabra de Barcelone.

Dans le cadre de cette collaboration, les étudiants ont créé des vidéos en équipe et participé à des débats en classe, avec pour objectifs de réduire l’anxiété communicative, renforcer la fluidité et la confiance à l’oral, et développer leurs compétences interculturelles.

Ce projet, dont nous avions déjà parlé ici, a donc voyagé jusqu’à ASELE 2026 ! 🇧🇪🇪🇸

Comme toujours, ces évènements sont une belle occasion de partager des pratiques pédagogiques, découvrir de nouvelles approches et échanger avec des collègues venus d’horizons variés.

Bref, une belle expérience de partage professionnel… et de quoi repartir avec plein d’idées pour nos futurs cours d’espagnol ! 💡

Back from the CercleS conference in Rome 🇮🇹

One of the things we value most about these events is the opportunity to meet colleagues from other countries and language centres, and to move beyond simply knowing each other by email.

This time, we had the opportunity to get to know our colleagues from Flanders and the Netherlands a little better. 🇧🇪🇳🇱 ❤️

We’ve already planned to meet again to explore how we can collaborate more closely in the future.

A lot of ideas, a lot of learning, and a few new collaborations to come! 🌍Thanks, CercleS and Alessandra Fazio, for bringing us together!

First event of the academic year 🚀 : the forum “Language in English-Medium Education: What Works, What Doesn’t, What’s Next”, organized by AGH University of Krakow 🇵🇱 and UNIVERSEH European University 🇪🇺.

💬Our colleagues Aude Hansel, Natassia Schutz and Christelle Hoorelbeke actively participated in the event and here are their 3 main take-aways:

1️⃣ Simply exposing students to English content is not enough. It is crucial to make things explicit: e.g. language learning objectives, cultural codes, and disciplinary expectations.

2️⃣ Collaboration is essential. To make this work, subject teachers and language teachers must work together. This partnership is key to building strong programs, defining clear objectives, and supporting subject professors in their teaching.

3️⃣ Let’s drop the "native speaker" myth, for both the students and professors. The goal is to communicate clearly in international contexts. We need to focus on practical, effective communication, without chasing absolute perfection.

New faces, new projects, and lots of enthusiasm for the year ahead! 🚀

🎒 We’re all back from the summer break, finishing the second exam session and getting everything ready for the 2026–2027 academic year at the Centre de Langues de l'UNamur (CdL).

💬 Today, we held our annual general meeting: a chance to welcome our new colleagues, reconnect as a team, and discuss the many perspectives and projects for the year ahead.

🌟 Welcoming another colleague to Université de Namur !

This week, we were delighted to welcome, Erin Johnston, a French as a Foreign Language instructor from Creighton University 🇺🇸. The visit was an opportunity to exchange teaching practices and to explore potential areas for collaboration.

The discussions were both stimulating and productive, generating several promising ideas that we hope to develop in the near future.

Meetings like these remind us of the importance of collaboration, not only to learn from one another, but also to create together authentic learning opportunities for our language students.

Thank you for your visit, Erin. We look forward to turning these ideas into reality!

🤝📚 Yesterday, we had the pleasure of welcoming Laetitia Langlois, Mathilde Bataille and Sylvain DEMATTEIS, from the Université d'Angers 🇫🇷 as part of their ‘tour’ of Belgian universities 🇧🇪

💬 Their objective was to explore different pedagogical approaches to language learning and language lecturer–content specialist collaboration, so as to gather inspiration for the ongoing development of their courses in Angers. Throughout the day, we shared our experiences, discussed teaching practices, and reflected together on the different challenges and opportunities we face in higher education.

🤗 A big thank you to our colleagues from Angers for these open, stimulating, and friendly exchanges. Days like this remind us of the value of collaboration and mutual learning across institutions and borders.

🌿 Rethinking language learning in higher education, together across Europe

Last week, we had the pleasure of hosting, in collaboration with Ranacles, CercleS' Teacher Training Week focused on cooperation, collaboration, and integration between language teachers and content specialists in higher education.

What made this week truly special was the diversity of perspectives brought together by colleagues from across Europe 🇧🇪 🇫🇷 🇩🇪 🇬🇷 🇪🇸 🇱🇻 🇨🇿 🇵🇱 🇬🇧 🇺🇦. Despite our different institutional contexts, we discovered how many challenges, ideas, and ambitions we share.

Through workshops, discussions, networking moments, and informal exchanges, we explored how language support and disciplinary teaching can work hand in hand to better support students in academic and professional contexts.

A huge thank you to everyone who contributed their expertise, energy, and enthusiasm throughout the week. The conversations started here will continue far beyond these few days ❤️

🌍 Last week, over 2,000 English teachers from around the world gathered in Brighton 🇬🇧 for IATEFL 2026.

Thanks to an Erasmus+ grant, Cindy Tréfois and Aude Hansel had the opportunity to attend this conference and take part in a wide range of seminars and workshops addressing key challenges in English language teaching today:

✍️ Building students’ writing stamina in the age of AI
🎧 Developing listening skills through authentic materials, including UN documents
🧠 Applying insights from neuroscience to support vocabulary acquisition
💬 Understanding how native speakers perceive fossilized errors in language learners

One of the most stimulating aspects of our job is the constant need to reflect on and adapt our teaching practices to meet our students’ evolving needs.

📚 Now it’s time to bring these insights back into the classroom.
