De beste waterzuivering kies je niet uit een cataloog, maar test je op je eigen waterstroom. 💧

De PFASTER-proefopstelling in Willebroek toont waarom VITO technologie op locatie test: wat in het lab werkt, moet ook standhouden in de praktijk.

Daarom brengen we sterk geautomatiseerde, modulaire pilootinstallaties naar industriële sites. De containers kunnen afzonderlijk of als zuiveringsketen worden ingezet: van multimediafiltratie en actieve kool tot ultrafiltratie, directe nanofiltratie, RO en CCRO.

Zo test je onder realistische bedrijfsomstandigheden welke aanpak past bij:
• PFAS en andere micropolluenten
• complexe proces- en afvalwaterstromen
• waterzuivering met het oog op hergebruik

Je onderbouwt de technologiekeuze met data uit je eigen proces, vóór een investering op volle schaal. 𝗧𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗯𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗶𝗻𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁.

PFAS uit water halen is één stap. Ze ter plaatse afbreken is de volgende uitdaging die VITO aangaat. 💧

Gisteren bracht het VRT NWS de PFASTER-proefopstelling in Willebroek in beeld.

Op de voormalige site van papierfabriek De Naeyer onderzoekt VITO hoe nanofiltratie PFAS uit sterk verontreinigd grondwater kan concentreren. Vervolgens testen we hoe plasmatechnologie die geconcentreerde stroom ter plaatse kan afbreken, vertelt wateronderzoeker Luk Peeters.

Binnen PFASTER coördineert VITO de demonstratie van de waterbehandelingstechnieken. Onze rol: innovatie onder reële omstandigheden testen en onderbouwen welke aanpak potentieel heeft voor duurzame opschaling.

Samen met OVAM, Jan De Nul Group (Official) en de andere projectpartners bouwen we kennis op die ook andere PFAS-verontreinigde locaties vooruit kan helpen.

During Love Tomorrow 2026, ten international deep tech startups took the stage for the VITO4STARTERS pitch competition, presenting solutions to some of today’s biggest sustainability challenges. 👀

The winner receives a Fast Track within the VITO4STARTERS programme, accelerating their path towards a potential investment by VITO.

This year, Ammobia impressed the jury and took first place with its technology for more efficient, sustainable and cost effective green ammonia production. Congratulations to the entire team! 👏

Congratulations as well to fellow finalists Bio Clean Carbon and Wattloop, and to all the startups that took part.

At VITO, our Young Advisory Board (YAB) brings together young colleagues who represent the voice of the next generation within our organisation. By sharing their perspectives, ideas and feedback, they help shape VITO’s future from the viewpoint of younger employees.

History made under the American sun! 🇧🇪☀️🏆

As a proud sponsor of Innoptus Solar Team, VITO congratulates the team on becoming the first European team to win the Electrek American Solar Challenge.

After eight intense days of determination, teamwork and innovation, they crossed the finish line having completed the most official kilometres and secured a well-deserved first place. This victory also marks another incredible milestone: the team has now raced on every continent.
