Orsi Academy is a unique center for surgical innovation and expertise in minimal invasive surgery.

Endorsed by Belgium’s top universities ‘University of Ghent’ and ‘Catholic University of Leuven’, Orsi Academy creates highly validated and accredited (NASCE, CME, EAU, …) training pathways for university students, residents, assistants and established doctors. To give participants the ability to learn from top experts, Orsi Academy has close collaborations with expert hospitals for live case observations.

Orsi Academy supports and encourages all initiatives that contribute to the development of MIS. Therefore, we offer third parties whose MIS-initiative might benefit from our state-of-the art set-up the possibility to rent (parts of) the infrastructure.

From classroom learning to hands-on practice, all within one training programme.

WallabyPhenox’s Centre of Excellence workshop at Orsi Academy brought together educational sessions, practical training using flow models and time in our animal lab.

For Maria James, Associate Director of International Training at WallabyPhenox, the experience went beyond the facilities. She highlighted the professional setup and the support from our team throughout the planning and delivery of the workshop.

What brought Federica to Orsi Academy?

More time at the robotic console, the chance to train on different platforms and room to refine the skills that matter most to her.

Meet our new gynaecology fellow 👋 Federica is especially interested in benign gynaecology and fertility preservation. During her fellowship, she wants to focus on tissue handling and suturing in narrow spaces. She hopes to apply these skills in procedures that preserve patients’ reproductive potential.

What struck her first? The close collaboration between engineers and medical professionals, and the opportunity to train with technology she would rarely have access to in a hospital.

What’s next in robotic urology? Three trends from ERUS26

At ERUS26 in Padua, Orsi Academy brought live surgery, research, education and new technology into the conversation.

Across three days, our team contributed through three live surgery procedures, more than 20 scientific contributions, work on AI-assisted intraoperative support and participation in the RUBIC innovation challenge.

One contribution in particular showed just how quickly the field is moving: a first-in-human telesurgical robot-assisted radical prostatectomy performed over a low-earth-orbit satellite connection.

From telesurgery and single-port systems to artificial intelligence moving into the operating room, ERUS26 offered a clear look at where robotic urology is heading next. For us, these developments also raise an important question: how do we make sure surgical training keeps pace with the technology?

We brought together the key moments, research and insights from Padua in our ERUS26 recap.

Meet Daan, one of our lab support colleagues. 👋

For Daan, no two days are the same. From preparing the labs and supporting surgical training sessions to caring for our research animals, his work helps ensure that everything runs smoothly.

Animal welfare is a crucial part of that responsibility. Daan and his colleagues help ensure the highest standards of care and welfare for our research animals, both in the stables and during anaesthesia, with plenty of enrichment, refreshing showers and even classical music. 🐷🎶
