The Battle of Grandmenil

Last Wednesday, 28 January 2026, we had the incredible honor of welcoming James and Amy for a visit in Trou du Loup aka The Wolfgap near Grandmenil. James is the great-nephew of Richard F. Wiegand, who on 25 December 1944 single-handedly stopped the 2nd SS Das Reich Division with one bazooka shot.
James and Amy traveled all the way from Pennsylvania to Grandmenil to search for the exact place where Richard fired his shot and ultimately gave his life.
During their visit, we also paid our respects at his grave at the Henri-Chapelle American Cemetery, visited the MHM44 Museum, and held a small ceremony at Trou du Loup, by the monument dedicated to this extraordinary hero.
May we never forget his ultimate sacrifice!

What an incredible weekend we had in our small town. Over 250 vehicles on saturday, 2 great re-enactment spectacles, a fair, great bands playing music from the era and meeting many, many friends from all over the world.
Remember, next year it is the 10th anniversary of the guys of Ardennes history remember 44/45! Big compliments for how they get things done and!

And once again, the Panther tank in Grandmenil has been further damaged. This time, some imbecile tried to cut off a piece of the tire. Totally disrespectful to treat a monument like this. It really is high time that this tank is protected against such vandals....

Today I walked around the Panther tank. It is incredible how many items were stolen during the last years. This monument of the battle of the bulge needs a good restoration and a good protection.

***SAVE THE PANTHER TANK OF GRANDMENIL!***

Recently a crowdfunding for our Panther tank has been started by several local people.
As most people know, the Panther tank, belonging to the 2nd SS Das Reich, is in a very bad shape and needs a good restoration. You can find a complete background about Panther tank 214 in this article: https://www.grandmenil.com/minefield-in-grandmenil/
It is estimated that an amount of 125.000 euro is needed to do the job.

We had a splendid event going on last weekend in Grandmenil. Several commeorations, lots of music, two reenactment spectacles, military fair, a sunday mass and tons of people!
Big shout out to the guys and galls from Ardennes history remember 44/45! Job well done!
May we never forgot the sacrifices the allied troops brought to liberate us.
