Last week, we had the pleasure of welcoming Cyril Atanassoff to our school!

What a joy and pride for our students to train with and learn from the dancers they admire!

Cyril Atanassoff, trained at the École de danse de l’Opéra national de Paris since 1953, became a star dancer in 1964 after joining the ballet corps in 1957.

Under the guidance of renowned teachers such as Roger Ritz, Serge Peretti, Victor Gsovski, Harald Lander, Fernando Alonso, Asaf Messerer, Ninel Kurgapkina, and Gilbert Mayer, he shines in a wide range of roles. From classics like "Giselle" and "Swan Lake" to contemporary creations by Maurice Béjart and George Balanchine.

He particularly stands out in roles such as Frollo and Quasimodo in Roland Petit's "Notre-Dame de Paris" (1965) and participates in major creations like Maurice Béjart's "La Damnation de Faust" (1964). His career is marked by remarkable versatility, ranging from the romanticism of "La Sylphide" to the classical grace of "The Sleeping Beauty".

His principal partners include illustrious names such as Yvette Chauviré, Claude Bessy, Noëlla Pontois, Elisabeth Platel, Sylvie Guillem, and he had the privilege of sharing the stage with internationally renowned dancers such as Alicia Alonso, Galina Samsova, Eva Evdokimova. He also took part in performances of the Ballet Royal de Wallonie in the 80's.

After teaching classical dance at the Paris Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse (CNSMDP) and for the Ballet de l'Opéra National de Paris, he retired, but is always ready to share his experience through classes or masterclasses.

Laurent Choukroun has been "Chef de Chant" at the École de Danse de l’Opéra national de Paris since 1989. He has developed a unique method of interpreting music for dance and has trained numerous musicians around the world for many years. He has gained his experience through working with some of the greatest international dancers throughout his career. He has also been an official pianist at competitions in Varna, Paris, and has performed on numerous stages in the USA, Japan, Canada, and more.

Happy ! ✨

Considered a distinctive piece of classical dance attire, the tutu made its debut in the 1830s at the Paris Opera. In a ballet titled La Sylphide, created at the Paris Opera in 1832 by Philippe Taglioni, the principal dancer Marie Taglioni appeared for the first time dressed in a long, white, and airy gown.

Over time, this "romantic" tutu underwent modifications, shortening and gaining volume, evolving into the most common model today: the short tutu.

The term “tutu” has three possible origins: it may refer to the double layer of tulle required to make it; it may come from a childish word for bottom (cul-cul) or from a smutty expression used by certain regular patrons of the opera: “panpan tutu” (smack-bottom).
