Do only cognitively complex beings such as humans display agency? Or, do all living systems actively shape their development, maintenance, and evolution? This question has been a topic of debate in both theoretical biology and philosophy of biology. Recently, the idea that biological agency is not reserved for us humans has gained traction. While theoretical debates in biology and philosophy have focused on defining biological agency and autonomy, this workshop bridges theory and practice by assessing how agency can actively inform and shape concrete biological research.

📢 Panel discussion ‘The Management of Sports Injuries with a Focus on Concussion: A Multidisciplinary Perspective on Ethics, Health, and Governance’

Concussion management remains one of the most complex challenges in modern sport, where deciding when an athlete can safely return to play extends far beyond medical clearance. This interdisciplinary panel brings together leading international experts, researchers, and sports federation representatives to examine concussion from a multidisciplinary perspective. Questions addressed include:

🔸 How do we deal with pressure to return to play too soon?

📢 Workshop ‘Adolescent fertility and reproductive health: pathways to a healthy future’

The ESHRE (European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology) Special Interest Groups is organising a 3-day course on adolescent fertility and reproductive health in collaboration with the Hellenic Society for Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology. The event explores how healthcare professionals can better support teenagers in protecting their reproductive health. The program brings together clinical, scientific, sociocultural, and ethical perspectives to address the unique challenges facing this population. Topics include:

The Centre for Medical Humanities (CMH) at is inviting applications for a visiting PhD student position during the spring semester of 2027. This opportunity is open to doctoral researchers whose work engages with the interdisciplinary field of medical humanities and who wish to spend 2 to 5 months in an active research environment exploring the intersections of medicine, health, culture, and society.

The Centre brings together scholars from the humanities, social sciences, and medical sciences, offering a vibrant academic community with seminars, research activities, and opportunities for collaboration. During spring 2027, CMH will also host an artist-in-residence initiative.
