From engineering to international politics, our Costa Rica team brings together a mix of backgrounds, talents and passions. But who are the faces behind this adventure? Let’s introduce them!

Hi, I’m Lune!

At 22, Lune is already working towards her second Master’s degree in Business Engineering! She’s always happy to meet new people and loves connecting with others. When she’s not busy studying, you’ll probably find her enjoying her role as a scout leader. Always ready for a new challenge and adventure!

Hi, i’m Evelyn

Evelyn has a background in Electrical Engineering and her friends describe her as organised, enthusiastic and empathetic. Outside of her studies, she loves getting lost in classic literature or spending time baking. And when she’s not reading or in the kitchen, she likes to stay active with volleyball, running and fitness!

Hi, I’m Yongqi Xia!

Yongqi is 23 years old and has a background in Economics, Law and Business Administration. She loves playing the piano and is always up for trying out a new sport. She’s also passionate about travelling and discovering new food spots. Exploring new places and experiences? Count her in!

Hi, I’m Manu!

Originally from Italy, Manu has a background in Mechanical Engineering. He loves riding his bike to explore the world and working on creative projects. And what’s his idea of a perfect moment? Enjoying an aperitivo with friends while watching the sunset. A little Italian sunshine wherever he goes!

Hi, I’m Sasha!

Sasha is 22 years old, half Ukrainian and half Belgian, and has a background in Business Administration. In her free time, she loves diving into a good non-fiction book or getting competitive over a board game. Whether it’s learning something new or enjoying a fun game night, she’s always up for it!

Hi, I’m Alba!

Alba is 22 years old and has a Master’s degree in International Politics. She’s a big fan of series and films about secret services and intelligence officers, so a good spy story will definitely catch her attention

Meet this year’s PIP teams! 👋

This is the PIP Board! And now, meet the nine teams taking on real-life challenges over the coming months. Here’s what each team will be diving into! 🚀

🤝 Leuven MindGate
Leuven attracts a lot of strong talent, but keeping that talent in the region remains a challenge. This team will investigate how employers can support one another in connecting strong candidates with new opportunities, while helping Leuven MindGate further develop its Talent Pool into a sustainable and valuable practice.

⚡ WeWatt
How can the experience of using a WeWatt Bike become even better? This team will look at the data generated while people pedal, work or wait, and explore how those insights can make the active charging experience more engaging and valuable for users.

⚽ OH Leuven
OH Leuven already collects a wide range of commercial, supporter and sports data. The challenge is to turn that data into something fans can actually experience. The team will explore how it can be used to create more relevant and engaging moments before, during and after a match, and test promising ideas with supporters on real matchdays.

🏡 ADEM vzw
The team will explore how De Plek, a multifunctional meeting space in Lovenjoel, can be used to create more connection between clients, their networks, employees, neighbours and local organisations. The challenge is to turn the space into a place where different groups can genuinely meet and interact.

🏑 KHC Leuven
With more than a thousand members and youth teams ranging from U7 to U19, assessing players and creating balanced teams is no simple task. The team will work on making player assessment and team allocation clearer and more consistent, while also supporting individual development and avoiding extra administrative work for coaches.

🚲 De Noir
Cyclists stopping for coffee often arrive with expensive road bikes, but not always with a practical way to secure them. This team will explore how cyclists can safely and conveniently lock their bikes without slowing them down, damaging the bike or compromising usability. The goal is to develop and test a realistic concept that could eventually be piloted at De Noir.

1. Thomas Butstraen is behind Maurice & Nora, a platform that connects students with older people and families who could use an extra helping hand. The idea is simple: make practical support easier to find while creating meaningful connections between generations.

2. Jorrit Heidbuchel is behind Ellio, a Belgian company developing innovative speed pedelecs for everyday commuting. By combining smart engineering, comfort and performance, Ellio offers a faster and more efficient alternative for getting from A to B

3. Julie Vets is the founder of GoFluo, a brand that rethinks high-visibility clothing by combining safety with fashion. What started as a fresh take on reflective wear has grown into a brand that proves visibility can be both functional and stylish

4. Tommaso Bordoni is the founder of Bordoni, where custom-made suits, shirts and shoes are created around the person wearing them. Every piece is tailored in detail, with a strong focus on fit, style and personal expression

And somehow, it still felt too small last night. 🤏

Not because we ran out of chairs ofcourse. But because the entire ecosystem was there. Thank you everyone for showing up and your kind words!

They talked about our why within the university, the why in the wider ecosystem and the why for students on a daily basis.

And that’s what the extra space is for; More room for students to work, meet people, work on an idea, join a workshop, or ask a question. A big thank you as well to all the students who are involved with KICK in some way for showing up and talking about your experience!

The extra space gives all of that a home, right in the middle of Leuven.
