🗓️ 23 October 2026 | ⏰13:15–14:00 CEST | 🖥️Online
[Who decides what it means to be media literate?]
Across research, education and policy, people are often labelled ‘media literate’ or not, ‘vulnerable’ or ‘resilient’. But who sets those norms, and whose perspectives, education systems and cultures do they reflect?
Our opening discussion questions the assumptions behind these labels and asks what happens when one standard is applied to very different communities.
🎤 Speakers:
• Susanna Laurin, Managing Director and Chair, Funka Foundation, Sweden
• Alexander Smit, Postdoctoral Researcher, Centre for Media and Journalism Studies, University of Groningen, The Netherlands
