📢 PhD Position in Egyptian Archaeology – Meat in Greco-Roman Egypt (KU Leuven)
The Department of Archaeology at KU Leuven invites applications for a fully funded PhD position in Egyptian Archaeology as part of the interdisciplinary project Meat in Greco-Roman Egypt (MeaGRE): An Interdisciplinary Approach. The project explores meat consumption in Greco-Roman Egypt through the integrated study of archaeological and textual evidence, bringing together archaeologists, Egyptologists, ancient historians, and papyrologists.
The successful candidate will investigate archaeological evidence related to meat production, processing, and consumption, including architectural remains, artefacts, visual sources, and faunal remains, within a collaborative international research environment.
Applicants should hold a Master's degree in Egyptology, Archaeology with a focus on Egypt, or an equivalent qualification. The position is full-time, starting on 1 November 2026 (subject to appointment), with funding for one year, extendable to four years after a positive evaluation. The application deadline is 24 August 2026.
