ChildBrain

ChildBrain ChildBrain aims to increase the understanding and improving diagnosis and treatment of neurocognitive disorders especially in dyslexia, ADHD and epilepsy.

The European Brain Council has recommended the disorders of the brain to be prioritised for funding. The purpose of this ChildBrain ETN is 1) to train young scientists, Early Stage Researchers(ESRs), to utilise evidence-based neuroscientific knowledge for helping children, especially those at high risk for dropout due to neurocognitive disorders, to meet future educational and societal demands. Ch

ildBrain networks 2) aim to develop new, innovative brain imaging-based tools through research and industry to be applied by researchers and clinical sector end users for 3) increasing understanding and improving diagnosis and treatment for neurocognitive disorders, as well as enhancing targeted educational programs. To accomplish these aims, 4) ChildBrain has a cross-disciplinary and trans-sectorial European network of experts. Host Institutions:

The applicants will contribute to the development, evaluation and application of new EEG and MEG neuroimaging and mc-tDCS simulation approaches based on realistic head volume conductor models using modern hierarchical Bayesian inversion and finite element forward methods as well as sensitivity analysis. The new methods will be applied in close collaboration with our clinical colleagues for improving presurgical epilepsy diagnosis and therapy.

The two successful applicants hold a Master’s degree (or equivalent) in a relevant academic area such as applied mathematics, computer science, physics, biomedical or electrical engineering or similar disciplines. Good programming expertise (Matlab, C++, Python or equivalent) and experience with the Linux operating system is expected, because large software toolboxes are used and further developed. The working language at the institute is English. Experience with targeted and optimized brain stimulation and with the measurement and analysis of brain signals is advantageous, but not essential. The applicant’s merits are assessed on the basis of the quality of Master’s level studies and thesis, previous experience with neuroimaging, numerical mathematics, optimization, inverse problems, software development, motivation and research interests as well as communication skills.

The location for this research will be the workgroup of Prof. Dr. Carsten Wolters at the Institute for Biomagnetism and Biosignalanalysis (IBB) (https://www.medizin.uni-muenster.de/en/institut-fuer-biomagnetismus-und-biosignalanalyse/institute.html). The work will be in close cooperation with Prof. Dr. Christian Engwer, Institute for Computational and Applied Mathematics, and the epilepsy center Münster-Osnabrück (Dr. Gabriel Möddel, PD Dr. Christoph Kellinghaus, PD Dr. Stjepana Kovac, PD Dr. Maryam Khaleghi Ghadiri), all at the University of Münster in Germany.
