Waarom zijn concerttickets zo duur? 🤔

In de nieuwe KU Leuven X AB Talk gaat professor economie Jan De Loecker in gesprek met Laura Clays, Emma Hessels en Jan Digneffe. 🎤

Why are concert tickets so expensive? 🤔

A night out these days often costs twice as much as it did a few years ago. Is this an inevitable consequence of rising costs, or is live music becoming a luxury item? Who actually sets the price of a concert ticket, and how do we ensure that live music remains accessible? 🎸🥁

On World Mental Health Day, we’re focusing extra attention on the importance of mental health 🧠

To aid that effort, we’re giving the floor to one of our alumni. As a former top-level dressage rider, Charlotte Verhesen draws on her own experiences to help young athletes maintain their mental resilience. She does this at the Topsportschool in Antwerp, in her practice Mental Power, and as a sports psychologist with the Red Flames’ youth teams. She helps young athletes with issues such as motivation, performance pressure or fear of failure. 💪

“In sport, the taboo surrounding psychological issues seems to be gradually disappearing. Mental wellbeing is a fundamental aspect of overall health: I get the impression that this realisation has taken hold everywhere.”

We would like to extend our heartfelt congratulations to alumnus Francis Halzen on winning the Nobel Prize in Physics! 🥇

The particle physicist has received the prize for his crucial contribution to the IceCube Neutrino Observatory and the discovery of high-energy neutrinos originating from the universe.
We are particularly delighted that this year’s highest possible scientific honour has been awarded to a former student of KU Leuven. In the 1960s, Halzen studied physics in Leuven, where he obtained both his master’s degree and his PhD.

With Francis Halzen, KU Leuven now counts a fourth Nobel laureate among its alumni. August Beernaert (Nobel Peace Prize 1909), Dominique Pire (Nobel Peace Prize 1958) and Christian de Duve (Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine 1974) also began their academic careers at the university of Leuven. 💪

📚 Today, on Teachers' Day, we’re showing extra appreciation for those who stand in front of a class every day.

Teaching in 2026 presents significant challenges. Staff shortages, heavy workloads and an education system under strain. Nevertheless, young people are still consciously choosing this profession. Like Stephanie and Kevin.

What can we learn from them? The best teachers are lifelong learners themselves.
