Have you ever wondered how musicians create some of the most popular chord progressions in music, like the 1, 4, 5 progression or even jazzy progressions? 🎷

Let's start with the 1, 4, 5 or the I-IV-V progression. This one is a crowd-pleaser, and you can hear it in countless songs. By using the circle of fifths, you can easily figure out which chords correspond to this progression. 🎹

For example, if you start with a C chord, the fourth and fifth chords will be F and G. Ossia Watch shows these chords in just one glimpse. Starting on the first (12 ‘o clock) you can find the fourth (F) on the left and the fifth (G) on the right. Knowing this you could use the 1, 4, 5 progression in any other key using Ossia Watch. 🎺

Let's take the key of D for example: On the left you can see G ( = the fourth), on the right you can find A ( = The fifth). You would end up with D, G, A. Would you rather play in the key of E? No problem, just do the same and you will end up with E, A, B. 🤘
Now let’s take it one step further with a jazzy progression: the famous iii-vi-ii-V progression. This one is often used in ballads and slow jazz tunes. It sounds really good on any instrument and I use it a lot to just play around with my guitar or piano. Using the circle of fifths, you can easily figure out the chords that correspond to this progression.

For example, starting with the key of C;
- The iii chord would be Em
- The vi chord would be Am
- The ii chord would be Dm
Can you spot them on Ossia Watch? The fifth - you already know how to find - is G(7).
If you take a closer look at Ossia Watch you can see these 3 major as well as the 3 minor chords shown perfectly. Now you can make it more interesting and use these and many other progressions in other keys. Just like we did with the previous progression. 🤔

But wait… It doesn’t stop there: using the circle of fifths can spark your creativity even more! How? By borrowing chords from other keys to incorporate in a “basic” chord progression. This way you can make your instrument sound much more interesting!

Hello music enthusiasts!
Are you aware of the fascinating connection between major and minor keys? Let's take a closer look at how we can apply this concept using the Circle of Fifths.

For this, you first need to understand that major keys are positioned on the outer ring, while their relative minor keys are located on the inner ring. This means that you can easily see the connections between major and minor - they are positioned right on top of each other! 🧐

Let's start in C major: It is a major key that has no sharps or flats in its key signature. When we want to find the relative minor, we just have to look below the letter C. Now we can see that A minor (or "a") is its relative minor. This means that they share the same notes and chords.

Let's take another example: if you're in the key of G major, you can easily switch to its relative minor "e". If you're in the key of D, you can easily switch to "b" and so on. 😲

By understanding this concept, you could take it one step further and use the relative minor chord as a transition between different keys.

Did you know that Pythagoras, a Greek scientist and philosopher, made the decision to standardize, or at least break down, musical tuning in an effort to make things simpler for everyone.

He had already defined what an octave was and had discovered the pitch frequencies of musical instruments by vibrating various lengths of a string.

He reasoned that there was a logical next step and created what is now known as the Pythagorean Circle, which eventually led to the more popular Circle of Fifths.
