Today, Professor Emeritus Dr. Fred Mednick gave a guest lecture on his organisation Teachers Without Borders (TWB), his experiences as a professor at Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) and his new book: "In the Small Places: Stories of Teacher Changemakers and the Power of Human Agency".

Dr. Fred Mednick has left an indelible mark on our Department of Educational Sciences. His influence extends beyond the classroom, touching the lives of students, colleagues and the wider academic community. We would like to express our gratitude once again for the wisdom, extraordinary guidance and passion for education that he generously shared. ⭐️

✨For those who do not know Prof. Dr. Fred Mednick✨

A former high school principal, Dr. Fred Mednick founded Teachers Without Borders (TWB) in 2000 to connect teachers with information to bridge the education divide. He is a Professor of Education Sciences at Vrije Universiteit Brussels and was a Visiting Fellow at Johns Hopkins University.

Teachers Without Borders has helped pioneer open educational resources and courses. Every TWB initiative on girls’ education, education in emergencies, and peace and human rights education has been designed and led by teachers in developing countries. This has resulted in a strong and diverse global network in 177 countries.

Teachers Without Borders has received the Champion of African Education Award and the 2018 Luxembourg Peace Prize. Dr. Mednick was awarded with the 2018 Ahmadiyya Muslim Prize for Peace. TWB has also been recognized by the White House, the Desmond Tutu Foundation, and the Peace Corps. Dr. Jane Goodall is the international spokesperson for TWB.
