Along with the end of the school year comes lots of fun school trips. A favourite for pre—primary was their trip to Ostend 🌊. After a fun train ride 🚞 spotting cows, sheep and horses through the window they arrived in Ostend. They made their way to the beach, admiring the different boats in the harbour and visiting the fish market where they got to smell the fresh fish and feel the fishing nets used to catch them. They walked along the pier to the seal beach, where they found many seals resting by the shore. The rest of the day was spent building sandcastles, dipping their toes in the ocean water, and collecting beautiful shells, they even worked together to pick up rubbish from the sand to help keep the sea animals safe and healthy. 🐚🦭🌊
Days like these are only possible thanks to our amazing parent volunteers. Parent involvement is truly one of the greatest strengths of our school, and this day really felt like one big ISG family trip! 🧡

One more week of school before the summer holidays! ☀️🌻 Lower Primary were very proud of themselves for completing their last writing assessment last week when they worked on their weekend recount ✍️. Everyone wrote independently, tried hard to sound out using their phonics and checked their work when they were finished. Both Year 1s and 2s were very pleased to see how much progress they’ve made when comparing their recount to their very first one back in September ❤️

In the Year 2 Numeracy classroom, they don’t only work with numbers and arithmetic…!This week, our young learners have been diving into the exciting world of STEM 🧑‍💻.
Using LEGO Education WeDo, the children are building models and bringing them to life through coding. They can create an object and then program it to interact using a simple, programming language.
Working in small groups, they are also tackling the challenges of GraviTrax, putting their problem-solving, critical thinking, and engineering skills to the test as they design and refine marble runs.
From building and coding to experimenting and persevering, our students are learning through play, creativity, and collaboration….and having a fantastic time along the way! 👩‍💻👨‍💻😊

📖 Little Authors at Work in Upper Pre-Primary! 🌈
Every day in our Upper Pre-Primary Rainbow Class, we write the date and a sentence about a highlight from the day. It’s a wonderful way for our learners to see themselves as real authors and storytellers! ✨
This daily routine encourages the children to think carefully about how to express their ideas and share their experiences with confidence.
Along the way, they are building fantastic literacy skills too! They:
🔤 Break words into sounds
✍️ Practise letter formation and copying
🌟 Learn about “magic e” words and sight words
↔️ Remember finger spaces between words
🛑 Add full stops at the end of sentences
📚 Explore grammar by using correct tenses
Watching their growth as writers, thinkers, and communicators is truly amazing! 💛

Today MYP 2 math students applied their mathematical skills to a real-life context to make Peppermint bark. Within the global context of identities and relationships, we have been learning about recipes from different cultures and how to scale them up or down using multiplication and division of fractions. A delicious way to enhance our mathematical knowledge!

Lower Pre-Primary is having a brilliant time exploring different craft techniques and enjoying some hands-on learning. To start, they practised their scissor skills by making beautiful rain collages and discovered how heavy clouds make the rain fall. They even became scientists by creating their very own rain cycles in a bag! After that, the students made some waves for our water scenes by letting a marble roll all around the paper, before crafting some colourful sea-animal suncatchers using pushpins. The fun didn’t stop there, as they also used vibrant sand and glue to decorate their favourite ocean creatures, and then showed off all their amazing sea-life knowledge in a special colouring dictation.

During their Unit of Inquiry “Pull You Push Me”, our young learners from lower primary explored forces through hands-on STEM learning with GraviTrax! GraviTrax is a marble run system where marbles move mainly due to gravity (a pulling force), but it also includes special components that create push forces in different ways. For example, some pieces use magnetic forces 🧲 to give the marble a boost, others use a catapult or spring mechanism to push the marble forward, and some elements create a push through impact, such as when a heavier marble hits another to set it in motion. The children worked in stations with different challenges to complete. They collaborated in teams, and each member had a specific role: builder, tester, and pieces master 🤔. These roles rotated after each completed challenge, ensuring that everyone had the opportunity to participate in different ways. The class was highly engaged and curious as they explored and solved their marble run challenges. 🥼🧫🤔😍
