(Eng below) 🌻 De laatste dag van onze zomerschool sloten we af met het maken van collectieve zines. Daar kwamen zines in alle vormen en formaten uit: van een gids rond eco-emoties tot een Shakespeareaanse sonnet over de kracht van bottom-up initiatieven. De presentaties van de verschillende groepjes hebben ons erg geraakt en hoopvol gemaakt! In een closing circle deelden we nog een aantal gedachten over de week en deelde iedereen een klein engagement dat ze zullen aangaan in de toekomst.
🌞 Daarmee is de zomerschool ook alweer voorbijgevlogen. Dank aan alle geëngageerde deelnemers om er een zo boeiende en inspirerende week van te maken! Duurzaamheid bleef dit jaar zeker geen abstract gegeven: de week stond in teken van het versterken van concrete acties om environmental justice na te streven in een veranderende wereld.
👉 We bekeken environmental justice in de praktijk via workshops en lezingen rond de rol van wetgeving, rechten van de natuur, politieke agro-ecologie, commons, burgercoalities en de rol van technologie. We bezochten bottom-up initiatieven in de Brugse Poort die heel concreet tonen hoe sociale verandering eruit kan zien. Daarnaast onderzochten we ook onze eigen rol hierin: via een social change map reflecteerden hoe we zelf kunnen bijdragen aan sociale verandering. In een workshop rond "actieve hoop" ontwikkelden we een concreet handelsperspectief, Lou Braibant gaf ons de tools om onze eigen boodschap in de realiteit te brengen via verhalen en in een workshop rond duurzame economieën bekeken we concrete verandering. Deze workshops gaven ons agency om zelf aan de slag te gaan.
🌍 Even goed vonden we het ook belangrijk om stil te staan bij wat de huidige uitdagingen met ons als mens doen. Zo was er een workshop rond eco-emoties en verwerkten we de vele indrukken en ideeën op verschillende momenten in individuele en collectieve zines. Tijdens een Deep Time Walk in de Bourgoyen zetten we dan weer alles in een groter perspectief: al wandelend leerden we over de geschiedenis van onze aardbol.

🌻 We concluded the final day of our summer school by creating collaborative zines. This resulted in zines of all shapes and sizes: from a guide to eco-emotions to a Shakespearean sonnet on the power of bottom-up initiatives. The presentations by the various groups really moved us and filled us with hope! In a closing circle, we shared a few more thoughts about the week, and everyone shared a small commitment they’ll make in the future.
🌞 And just like that, the summer school has come to an end. Thank you to all the committed participants for making it such a fascinating and inspiring week! Sustainability was certainly not an abstract concept this year: the week was all about empowering concrete actions to pursue environmental justice in a changing world.
👉 We explored environmental justice in practice through workshops and lectures on the role of legislation, the rights of nature, political agroecology, the commons, citizens’ coalitions and the role of technology. We visited grassroots initiatives in the Brugse Poort area that demonstrate very clearly what social change can look like. We also explored our own role in this: using a social change map, we reflected on how we ourselves can contribute to social change. In a workshop on ‘active hope’, we developed a concrete action plan; another workshop gave us the tools to bring our own message to life through storytelling, and in a workshop on sustainable economies we explored concrete change. These workshops gave us the agency to get started ourselves.
🌍 We also felt it was just as important to reflect on how the current challenges are affecting us as human beings. For example, there was a workshop on eco-emotions, and at various points we processed the many impressions and ideas in individual and collective zines. During a Deep Time Walk in the Bourgoyen, we put everything into a broader perspective: whilst walking, we learnt about the history of our planet.
