Wind kan voor blinde mensen die zich te voet buitenshuis verplaatsen erg vervelend zijn. Mensen die blind zijn gebruiken hun gehoor vaak om zich te oriënteren op de omgeving denk aan het verkeer, stemmen, voetstappen of echo’s van gebouwen. Wind kan achtergrondgeluiden maskeren of vervormen, ook maakt wind het moeilijk om de richting of snelheid van geluiden te bepalen en kan wind ook ruis in de oren veroorzaken.
Give me rain over wind any day.
I can handle getting wet. I can put on a hat, cover up, and keep moving.
But wind? Wind changes everything.
As someone who relies heavily on hearing to navigate the world, especially when using my cane, wind can take that away from me. The constant roar makes it harder to hear traffic, crossings, or even people around me.
On a windy day, something as simple as crossing the road becomes a challenge. It’s not just annoying, it’s unsafe.
So while most people complain about a bit of drizzle, I’ll take that over a blustery day every time.
