CALL FOR PARTICIPANTS - SUMMERSCHOOL VIVA COLIGNON - 29 JUNE-4 JUNE 2026

PRACTICAL - Start of the workshop on Monday 29th of June (09:00) until Saturday 4th of July. FCF-a provides a place to work in the Mariti(e)me neighbourhood in Molenbeek during this time. Together with Zinneke, we've set up a metal and woodworkshop in our workspace in the neighbourhood. Participation in the summerschool is free of charge.

Closing event of the summerschool will take place on Saturday evening 06/07on the Colignon Square and will celebrate the start of Openstreets.

OPEN STREETS 2026 - It all started in the Mariti(e)me neighbourhood, a very densely populated area of Brussels. The lack of qualitative public space and scarcity of private terraces and gardens lead to the urban experiment of the summerstreets. At the start of the pandemic in 2020, Filter Café Filtré collaborated with local residents to transform the street to a safe space for residents of all ages to rest, eat, play, chat, bike, meet… In this year's 7th edition of the summerstreets, the program and street interventions span the Maritime neighbourhood but also extends for the first time to Schaerbeek. Together with some 30 partners and neighbour coalitions in every street, Filter Café Filtré - Atelier opens the streets for neighbourhood activities as experiments to appropriate the street as a public space and to build community.

SUMMERSCHOOL 2026 - We invite (student) architects, designers, makers, and other interested professionals to collaborate in constructing and designing projects for the Colignon Square in Schaerbeek. At Filter Café Filtré Atelier, we view the street as a critical space for urban transition. Our goal is to reinvent urban spaces through tactical urbanism and micro-interventions, which serve as bridges between present-day streets and long-term urban ambitions.

This year, the focus is on multiple micro-interventions, set in a global project for the main square of Schaerbeek. Over the course of a week, participants will engage in a makers' workshop, guided by experienced architects and makers, to bring the visions of Filter Café Filtré Atelier for the neighbourhood to life. The activities will include interactions with local residents and initiatives, construction guidance and insights from previous summerschool sessions in Zinneke's steel and wood atelier.
During the Summerschool, participants will work for 6 days in the neighbourhood. Together with Zinneke, we will set up a wood and metal workshop for the participants to use. The Summerschool is free of charge.

LAUNCH A+318: STREETS AS SOFT SPACES

A+ nodigt jullie samen met Filter Café Filtré Atelier warm uit voor de launch van A+318 Streets as Soft Spaces, op donderdag 25 juni in de Barmacie in Sint-Jans-Molenbeek. De avond staat in het teken van een van de grootste ontwerpuitdagingen van vandaag: het heruitvinden van de ‘gewone’ straat. Voorbij een louter verkeerstechnische ingreep kan ze immers een bijdrage leveren aan tal van andere maatschappelijke noden, zoals een betere luchtkwaliteit en waterhuishouding, een grotere sociale interactie en culturele uitwisseling.

Op de avond gaan verschillende auteurs van A+318, architecten en beleidsmakers met elkaar in gesprek over het belang van een juiste architectuurtaal en inclusieve, integrale ontwerpaanpak van straten. De launch van dit nummer, dat de redactie van A+ samen heeft gemaakt met Gideon Boie die op 20 mei 2026 is overleden, staat volledig in het teken van zijn gedachtengoed en nalatenschap. De happening luidt tevens de start van Openstreets 2026 in.

Soms ligt de oplossing voor onze woonopgave niet in méér bouwen, maar in beter benutten van wat al bestaat. Tijdens deze summerschool brengen we typologieën van de bestaande Vlaamse woningvoorraad in kaart en zoeken we via ontwerpend onderzoek naar de bijkomende woningen die we daarin kunnen vinden in plaats van bouwen.
