🫂 Last weekend we had our annual WD Boardweekend where all the boardmembers get to know each other and prepare this academic year !

We got workshops and table discussions to understand the organization of WeDecolonize but also find our year theme! Preparing the Kick-Off event, happening the 28th October, was also planned out in those 3 intensive days. 🎉

A weekend filled with connection, laughs, reflection and collective vision 🌸

Thanks to the UCOS Board to give us inspiring presentations! We can’t wait to meet members and new faces at the end oh the month 💛🌎

🇵🇸 WeDecolonize had the chance to work in collaboration with 11.11.11 to have a panel discussion with Shawan Jabarin, the general manager of Al-Haq Al-Haq and a Middle East expert from 11.11.11, Willem Staes. This happened in Mortsel on the 30th of September and Aalst the very next day.

Al-Haq is the oldest human rights organization in the Middle East since 1979 and has been a partner of 11.11.11.

Ghassan, our Project Manager and Palestinian activist , took the moderator position during this important discussion on how the role of the International Crime Court and fighting against impunity should not be taken granted since the last “ceasefire”.

The singer and oud player, Husein Ali Abu Shammala concluded those nights with songs who brought Arabic heritage to life through this string instrument.

We are thanking again 11.11.11 and Al-Haq for having these dialogues with us but also the public who came and actively involved themselves in it.

Our Decolonial Library is more than a collection of books. It’s a space for alternative knowledge, community, connection and learning. And we’re looking for someone to help us further develop it! 🤎

We’re looking for a library intern, student worker or volunteer with a background in library, information or archive management who wants to help us organize and strengthen our growing collection.

You’ll work on cataloguing, collection and lending systems, and help us think about how a library can be made more accessible, equitable and community-oriented. 📖

✨ Our WeDecolonize Zine is here!

How do you capture an entire year of learning, questioning, creating, struggling, laughing and building community together? We tried. 🤎

Our zine is a little piece of collective memory from our 2025–2026 WeDecolonize year. Inside, you’ll find reflections from our board members, our favourite books from the Decolonial Library, poetry, puzzles, thoughts on academia and decolonization, and pieces about care, belonging, resistance and finding your place. 🌱

But more than anything, these pages hold parts of WeDecolonize that don’t always make it onto Instagram: the conversations, questions, challenges, small victories and people that shaped our year.

As we close this chapter, we’re incredibly proud of everything we built together and excited for what the next group of students will make of it. 🫶🏽

Here’s to continuing to question, imagine and build differently ✊🏽

🌍 Our Project Manager recently presented at the IMISCOE Annual Conference in Girona, Spain, alongside researchers from the ENGINE project

She spoke about the importance of building and sustaining safer spaces for racialized students in higher education, and what it means to challenge Eurocentric knowledge systems through care, community, and collective knowledge production. 📚

It was inspiring to share WeDecolonize's work with an international audience and to receive such positive feedback. 🌱

A big thank you to the ENGINE project, Prof. Dr. Ilke Adam, Dr. Amal Miri, and everyone who joined the session and contributed to the conversation. 💛
