It is with great sadness that we share the passing of a former colleague, Marja Van der Eyken, who was part of the Antwerp International School community for most of her life.
Marja joined AIS as a teenager and remained a dedicated presence until her retirement a few years ago. She was one of those rare individuals who worked quietly behind the scenes, never seeking attention, yet leaving a lasting and meaningful impact on the daily life and well-being of the entire school community.
She was deeply respected and genuinely loved by colleagues and friends alike. Even after her retirement, her name was always met with warmth and fond memories.
Above all, Marja was a devoted mother who spoke proudly of her family, especially her cherished holidays in Tenerife, where she found so much joy watching her husband and children surf.
She faced her illness with remarkable courage over the years. Her passing is a profound loss to all who knew her.
Marja will be remembered for her unwavering kindness and the quiet strength with which she touched so many lives.
Our thoughts are with her family and loved ones during this difficult time.

We had the pleasure of welcoming Leslie Corydon and her husband John last week. It was a wonderful opportunity to take a stroll around the campus together and reminisce about the past.

We were honoured to welcome the Moon family back to Antwerp International School for a very special alumni visit.
Linda Moon Hollingsworth, together with her husband Grant and daughter Kara, visited AIS to reconnect with the school and witness its growth and development over the years. The Moon family played an important role in the early history of AIS and their visit offered a meaningful moment of reflection on how far the school has come since its founding.
During their time on campus, they shared memories and historical insights, including a photograph from the school’s first Board of Directors featured in the 1969 yearbook, an especially moving reminder of the school’s beginnings. It was also a moment to honour the legacy of the early pioneers of AIS, including members of the original staff and founding community.
The visit highlighted the deep connections that continue to link our present school community with its rich history. We are grateful to the Moon family for taking the time to return to AIS and for their continued interest in the school’s journey and success.
