The non-profit organisation Close the Gap aims to bridge the digital divide by delivering high-quality, pre-owned computers donated by European companies to schools, universities, microfinance institutes, medical centers and other social projects in developing and emerging countries. Access to ICT is essential in the developing world because it is key to improving a country’s educational and economic prospects. Close the Gap collects decommissioned computers, has the hard disks cleaned and the hardware checked and configured according to the requirements of its end-users. The computers are then shipped to the destination country, where a support and maintenance programme ensures the long-term usability of the computers. Additionally, Close the Gap started up WorldLoop to provide environmentally friendly recycling solution when the equipment has reached the end of its functional life by helping local communities establish an efficient, operational and auto-funded system for e-waste collection and recycling.

We recently welcomed Anne Marie and her family from Stichting Gilles, one of our valued partners and supporters.

They visited our ITAD facility in Nairobi, saw the impact of our work at Peggy Lucas, and then travelled to Mombasa to experience our new Hub, meet our team, and see what we're building.

There were conversations, stories, laughter, and a little taste of Mombasa hospitality from our Café team.

Most importantly, there was time to connect with the people and work behind the partnership.

We challenged the sunk cost fallacy, the tendency to keep investing in something simply because we’ve already invested so much.

Through honest conversations, roundtables, and practical reflections, participants looked at the decisions behind starting again, letting go, and choosing a better path forward.

Because building a business isn’t just about knowing when to push harder.

It’s also about knowing when to change course.

We joined the leadership of VETA Tanzania and the ICT Commission of Tanzania for a high-level steering meeting focused on advancing circular technology solutions.

The meeting brought key partners together to align priorities, strengthen collaboration and explore how lessons from building circular technology solutions can help shape the skills, systems and partnerships needed to scale the circular economy in Tanzania.

Entrepreneurship looks very different when you experience it from the inside.

That’s what Lore and Sirine discovered during their six-week VUB internship with CTG.

We took them beyond the classroom and into the ecosystem: 7 field visits, 15 companies, startup conversations, team meetings, and hands-on work through our Impact Accelerator.

They contributed to real work around policy, whistleblowing, and go-to-market readiness, while gaining a closer view of the people, challenges, and decisions behind growing a business.
