This week, the National Agency for the Evaluation of Universities and Research Institutes (ANVUR, Italy) has hosted a peer-learning activity for national authorities in Rome as part of the Robust Quality Assurance of Transnational Education (ROQA-TNE) project, coordinated by ENQA.

Last week, members of ENQA’s pool of experts came together to exchange experiences and reflections on the role of the review chair, with contributions by Teresa Sánchez Chaparro, Ronny Heintze, Nora Skaburskienė and Tue Vinther-Jørgensen, who shared their insights and practical perspectives.
One of the takeaways from the discussion was the idea that an effective chair is simultaneously the motor, compass, glue, and seal of the review panel:
🚀 The motor keeps the review moving forward and focused on its objectives.
🧭 The compass provides direction, guiding the panel through the review process and helping it navigate complex discussions and evidence.
🤝 The glue brings the panel together by facilitating deliberations, fostering collaboration, and ensuring that members work effectively as a team.
✅ The seal safeguards the quality and integrity of the review, ensuring that both the process and its outcomes are rigorous and robust.

Progress visits aim to generate a stronger, enhancement-oriented dialogue, in order to go beyond the compliance-focused review site visit. Focused on the agency’s specific needs and priorities, progress visits provide an opportunity for an in-depth external review on key development areas, helping agencies to strategically plan their future work.

The anniversary event in Split (Croatia) was attended by Cristina Ghitulica, who addressed participants both in her capacity as ENQA President and as a former President of CEENQA.

☑️ Last week, the Independent Agency for Accreditation and Rating (IAAR, Kazakhstan) hosted a site visit for an ENQA-coordinated external review.
The principal aim of ENQA Agency Reviews is to assess an agency’s compliance with the Standards and Guidelines for Quality Assurance in the European Higher Education Area (ESG) and to support it in its efforts to review and enhance its work. 📈
