Francesca Comune

Born in Naples in 1997 and based in Brussels, Francesca Comune moved from Milan’s fashion publishing world to photography at ARBA-ESA, where she earned her MFA in Visual and Spatial Arts. She received the Roger de Conynck Prize (2021) and the Tour à Plomb Prize (2023).

Her practice spans photography, writing, installation, research and publishing. Each project is a site-specific inquiry into transitional places shaped by production, consumption and speed, and into her Neapolitan roots, tracing the memories and tensions they hold.

📍 Francesca is part of Anastylosis, our group exhibition at Island.
Until 5 October 2026, rue Franz Merjay 182, 1050 Ixelles

Anna Safiatou Touré (1996)
is a French-Malian multidisciplinary artist based in Brussels. Her work explores the space that unites or separates the two sides of every migratory narrative.
The path through this personal, historical and cultural blend fills, for her, empty or unanswered spaces. At her own scale, she materializes this absence by creating her own evidence to make history heard. Could the world not be told in reverse, like a stencil, from the edge of its outline?

«  Bruno Brunet’s work explores the materials of public space, the social fabric, the codes of conduct taught around them, and how they’re inevitably broken. Depicting the destruction of public property, Brunet references the plastic seat covers on Brussels public buses. Yet he recreates and recontextualizes these small public destructions within a minimalist frame—the white canvas—drawing attention to the nuance of an act that tells the story of a figure pushing back against the banal repetition of modern society. These delicate interventions give voice and language, history and character to the overlooked, everyday scenes of contemporary life.
Growing up in the Brussels suburbs, Brunet often caught the first trains into the city center and the last ones out. On these trains, he frequently saw young men, teenagers—« tough guys, or maybe just lonely, bored guys »—vandalizing the train, holding a lit lighter and melting imprints into the plastic seat covers. Brunet remembers the smoke filling the empty carriages, but above all the patterns, the « constellations » these strangers created.
Witnessing these interventions deeply shaped Brunet’s understanding of art and who was « allowed » to make it. From this formative experience, his creative identity took shape. By reconstructing this public intervention on white canvas and hanging it on the walls of a respected art institution, Brunet’s positioning as a hybrid artist becomes clear. While counted among the chosen few, he channels the outsider—and the very tool used to create these memories is also on display. Recreated as a ghostly trophy and placed on a pedestal, a final lighter is commemorated. » Bruno Brunet
