The CLGE congratulates Kalogiannakis Michalis, our former Secretary General, on his election as President of the FIG. We extend our best wishes to the newly elected team, as well as to Diane Dumashie’s team as their term comes to an end in September 2026.

On 8 and 9 May, we held our first General Assembly of 2026 in Tartu, Estonia.
We had excellent discussions with our Estonian hosts, who explained to us how the profession is organised in Estonia.
We reviewed our activities since our previous General Assembly in Dublin.
We organised workshops on:
- the CLGE’s theme for the year: AI
- the future of property monumentation, which resulted in the Tartu Declaration
- our EGS-act project, finalising the questionnaire that will be sent out shortly.
During this meeting, we unanimously decided to elect two new honorary members: Matjaž Grilc and Vladimir Krupa, who have contributed greatly to the CLGE through their work as delegates, President of IG-PARLS and-or President of the CLGE. Through their work and loyalty, they have successfully carried out major projects for our association and helped to preserve the friendly atmosphere that characterises our organisation.
We paid particular attention to the upcoming elections for the FIG President and Vice-President: all European candidates were invited to this General Assembly, all attended, and we thank them warmly. They were able to present their respective programmes and discuss matters with our members: Michalis Kalogiannakis (GR), Mikael Lijle (SE), Peter Ache (DE) and Angel Collado (SP).
We also had time to visit , its university and the observatory used by , the 2012 European Surveyor of the Year, who carried out the measurements for the Struve Arc between Norway and the Black Sea between 1816 and 1855 (2,820 kilometres!).
