During the Can You Hear Ours Rivers project, we took plenty of audio recordings!
In Ghent, Belgium, and in and around Zagreb, Croatia, in September 2022 and April 2023.
These include interviews with experts, guides, exchanges between young people from the Scheldt Youth Parliament and the Sava Youth Parliament, ambient sounds, nature, the rivers...
The topic was the causes and consequences of climate change on a river bassin area, and the solutions and initiatives of various people.
Emma Bardusco, one of the young people, produced 2 podcasts based on the first audio exchanges.
We're delighted to share them with you here!

If these podcasts are of interest to young people, citizens and politicians, there may well be more, as we still have hundreds of rushes of fascinating audio recordings ! :-) (but montage take tiiiiimme !!)

Young people from the Scheldt Youth Parliament gathered in Zeeland, Netherlands, for two very motivating days (25 and 26 January 2024) focused on the subject of "Rights of the Scheldt."

The event primarily took place at the HZ University of Applied Sciences in Middelburg, situated near the water along the city canal and the larger canal between Middelburg and Vlissingen, providing an ideal opportunity to explore the Scheldt.

On the first day, coinciding with the 33.3-year anniversary of water management at HZ, young people from SYP, along with other students, teachers, and associations, participated in several workshops. These included a "deep mapping" workshop for the Scheldt, discussions on "Rights of Nature or Rights for Nature?", considerations about future generations and delta waters, and reflections on expanding practical work and strengthening impact, as well as strategies for engaging both young and older people in participation.

On the second day, participants enjoyed a speech titled "Water Doesn’t Stop at Borders" by Eva den Boer, Deputy Mayor of Nath Sea and advocate for Youth & Water towards the UN 2023 Water Conference, followed by a workshop on plastic pollution.

SYP also took part to an exciting beach clean-up, led by Jan, one of SYP's youth members, under the bright sunshine. During lunch and dinner, brainstorming sessions on the functioning of SYP took place near the Scheldt. This provided an opportunity to connect with the Green Office of HZ, which works tirelessly every day on the preservation and management of the Scheldt basin area. Efforts are underway to secure funding for collaboration between HZ and SYP.

In 2023, all young people are once again invited to take action for the climate and send out a strong message from their school, their youth centre, their youth movement, their neighbourhood, and so on.

Make your own signs, take photos, make a film, even organise your own climate demonstration. It's all about creativity!

You can pass the information on to your school, your university, your youth association, and do something with your class/group OR for those who are in Brussels or can come to Brussels : we'll get together next week (Tuesday 28 or Wednesday 29 November) to make signs, for example, and prepare a short film or photos, which we'll post on 1 December.

Jeudi 11 octobre 2023 s’est déroulé la journée anniversaire des 20 ans du Parlement des Jeunes pour l'Eau du bassin Artois-Picardie à Lilles !

L’évènement était organisé par Agence de L'eau Artois Picardie et s’est tenu au centre Gaïa Le Partenariat
Une 100taine de personnes étaient présentes dont des lycéens, des étudiants, des associations.
L’occasion pour les jeunes de présenter leurs projets liés à la gestion de l’eau, d’écouter des témoignages de jeunes parlementaires qui ont montré l’intérêt de s’investir dans un Parlement de jeunes pour l’eau et ce que ça leur a apporté dans leur vie professionnelle et personnelle, l’occasion également de débattre avec les acteurs d’aujourd’hui et de demain, sur les actions du PJE, son avenir, pourquoi il existe et comment on le fait vivre, avec un discours entres autres de Alexandre Ledoyen, représentant la jeunesse au Comité de bassin Artois-Picardie, Président de l’association « La jeunesse pour l’eau ».
C’était aussi bien sûr pour nous, GoodPlanet Belgium et le Parlement des Jeunes de l’Escaut Scheldt Youth Parliament, dont deux nos jeunes actifs étaient présents, l’occasion de présenter les projets en cours et de recruter de nouveaux jeunes français qui rejoindront notre groupe de jeunes pour l'Escaut, de 16 à 26 ans de France, Belgique et Pays-Bas.
Des liens ont pu être créés ou consolidés entre ces 2 parlement de jeunes de bassin, le Parlement Européen de la Jeunesse pour l’Eau (https://www.facebook.com/InternSecrWater/about), des associations d’activités aquatiques et scientifiques.

At the HZ University of Applied Sciences in the Nederlands, a conference was held last Thursday on the subject "Rights-based approach for the Scheldt".
The speakers and subsequent debates were rich and inspiring !
Several young SYP members were able to meet up and discuss new opportunities for SYP activities.
It was an opportunity for GoodPlanet Belgium to start a partnership for the future activities of SYP with this University, which has a Green Office very active in the study and management of water in the Scheldt river basin.
