Perfectionism can look like ambition. But often, it is less about producing excellent work and more about avoiding what an imperfect result might mean.
Failure. Criticism. Disappointment. Feeling exposed. Not being “good enough.”
That is why perfectionism can produce procrastination, endless revision or never starting at all.
High standards help you improve the work. Perfectionism can make the work feel dangerous.
The useful question is not only, “How can I do this well?” It is also, “What am I afraid an imperfect result would say about me?”
