Did you know that Prof. Anne Van de Vijver is the first woman to be dean of our Faculty?

Prof. Renate Barbaix is our vice-dean of education and Prof. Stefan Rutten has taken on the role of vice-dean of research. Filip Seuntjens strengthens the team as faculty director.

Esohe Weyden, voormalig campusdichter aan onze universiteit en onderzoeker binnen UAntwerpen - Faculteit Rechten, is de nieuwe stadsdichter van Antwerpen! 🖋️

Met haar unieke, ritmische poëzie en maatschappelijke betrokkenheid wil ze Antwerpenaren verbinden en inspireren door middel van woorden.

Op 22 januari 2025 wordt ze officieel aangesteld als stadsdichter tijdens een feestelijk evenement in De Roma ter gelegenheid van Poëzieweek 2025.

We kijken uit naar de prachtige poëtische verhalen die zullen komen.

Na een schitterende carrière gaat prof. dr. Herman Van Goethem in september 2024 op emeritaat.

Op vrijdag 26 april 2024 vond de negende editie van de nationale pleitwedstrijd grondwettelijk recht plaats. Arevik Miskarian, Mathieu Vereecke en Johannes Vogels vertegenwoordigden UAntwerpen in de Raad van State voor een jury van magistraten van het Grondwettelijk Hof en de Raad van State, en vooraanstaande advocaten.

🥇 Het UAntwerpen-team won de prijs voor de beste memorie en kreeg bijkomende complimenten van de jury voor hun werk. Daarnaast behaalden ze een zilveren medaille 🥈 met hun finalepleidooi in de grote finale.

En gefeliciteerd aan de coaches prof. dr. Cedric Jenart, Ben Claes en Floris Fonteyn.

On 26 April 2024, the ninth edition of the national constitutional law moot court competition took place. Arevik Miskarian, Mathieu Vereecke and Johannes Vogels represented the University of Antwerp at the Council of State before a jury of magistrates from the Constitutional Court and the Council of State, and prominent lawyers.

🥇 They won the prize for the best memorandum and received additional compliments from the jury for their work. In addition, they were rewarded with a second place 🥈 for their inspiring final argument in the grand finals.

Congratulations, Mathieu, Arevik and Johannes, and to the coaches! 👏

📣 Calling all first-time voters…Vote4OurRuleofLaw Fellowship is here!

In 2019, only 42% of eligible voters in the age bracket 16/18-24 turned out for the European Parliament (EP) elections. Vote4OurRuleofLaw is here to change it!

The fellowship aims to provide first-time voters with the necessary tools to cast an informed vote in the upcoming EP elections. 🗳🇪🇺 In the course of 6 weeks, the participants will dive into the following topics:

👉What young people care about and how effective EU policy-making is required for that;
👉 The link between national voting and decision-making by/in the European Parliament;
👉 How (y)our democratic vote can help protect democracy and the rule of law

To connect all the dots, the participants will meet in Berlin for a two-day long Bootcamp at Humboldt University on the 4th and 5th of April 2024!

At the end of the Vote4OurRuleofLaw Fellowship, all participants will be co-authors of a report, encompassing everything necessary to cast an informed first-time vote at the upcoming EP elections, and help other first-time voters do the same.
