5 years of maritime data. That’s what others can’t buy.
Dockflow turns that dataset into predictive AI. Michiel Valee explains why historical container data — what actually happened to past shipments, not just what’s happening now — is the real competitive advantage. The algorithm learns from the journey, not just the destination.
What data asset in your business are you sitting on that you haven’t fully activated yet?

Logistics is rather binary. You deliver or you don’t.
So why did an entire industry spend years unable to answer the simplest question a customer can ask? Michiel Valee (Dockflow) has thought about this more than most. His answer is honest, a little uncomfortable, and completely right.
What’s the most surprisingly complex ‘simple’ problem you’ve tried to solve?

🚁 Europe is not testing the future of healthcare logistics anymore, it is physically building it.
One of our members, Helicus , just signed a €1.5 million contract with Liège University Hospital ( ) to build a dedicated medical drone airport on its campus.
First of its kind in Wallonia.
The deal covers a decade of infrastructure and maintenance, with expansion to five automated platforms across the Liège region. What gets transported: blood bags, organ samples, urgent medications, defibrillators.
Not a pilot. Not a proof of concept. A long-term infrastructure contract.
Helicus flew the first cargo drone across the Scheldt at the Port of Antwerp-Bruges. What's being built in Liège is the same logic applied to hospitals: take the supply chain off the road, automate the ground handling, and measure success in minutes, not hours.
Worth watching closely.
Congratulations to Mikael Shamim,Geert Vanhandenhove and the rest of the team for this amazing achievement.
Some nice quotes:
Healthcare institutions as transformation drivers
Marc De Paoli, CEO of Liège University Hospital:
“As a leading academic institution, Liège University Hospital plays a major societal role, particularly in medical innovation and the management of critical situations. This investment is fully aligned with that mission: to develop concrete solutions that serve both patients and the healthcare system. Our collaboration represents a significant step forward for the benefit of patients, staff and the wider region.”
Bart De Wever, Prime Minister of Belgium described in his keynote :
"The development of automated Drone Cargo Ports is a perfect example: You integrate with hospitals and laboratories, and they can accommodate varies types of drones. This means that blood, isotopes, medication or human tissue are no longer stuck in traffic, but can reach destination within minutes. The benefits are obvious – not only in terms of healthcare, also for the urban mobility and making our logistics more sustainable."

🏆 We entered a hackathon — and we're pretty proud of what happened next!
Last weekend, we represented The Beacon at the 2nd edition of the Belgian Navy Hackathon, organized by Innovation for Defence. Our team took home the win in the "Redefining Relationships with Ecosystems" challenge. 🎯
The mission? Bringing Belgium's scattered innovation ecosystems closer to the defence world.
Our solution: a digital matchmaking platform where defence officers can post structured challenge proposals, while tech companies, innovators and academics can upload their solutions, ideas and research. Powered by AI-matching to connect both worlds faster and smarter. 🤝
Exactly the kind of collision we love to create. 💡
A huge congratulations to our amazing team:
Hélène Smidt · Edouard Boutens · Anissa Hellalet · Anja Ipavec Lakner · Joachim Van den Bogaert · Dominique De Geest 👏
And a big thank you to the organizers of for putting this together — see you at the next one! 🙏

🚁 Big news from one of our residents!
Helicus just launched Belgium's first fully automated cargo drone hub — and it's a genuine world first. The entire loading and unloading process, fully automated. No human intervention. Just clean, scalable drone logistics.
We're incredibly proud to have Helicus in our community at The Beacon. This is exactly the kind of innovation that's rewriting the rulebook for maritime and port logistics.
Watch it in action 👇

Not something we do often, but this one feels different.
We've been watching BubblyDoo for a while now, and the numbers speak for themselves — 95% CAGR over 5 years, €5M revenue incoming, 300,000+ families worldwide. That's not hype, that's a business that actually works.
What gets us most? They're opening their cap table to their own community first. The people who believed in them get a seat at the table before the rest of the world shows up. That's the kind of founder mentality we respect.
Crowdfunding via Crowdcube, starting from just €15. Find the link in Toine Habets' post 👇
(And yes, the acting in the campaign video absolutely deserves a special mention 😄)
#investing | Toine Habets | 51 comments It’s time… After 7 years of this exceptional growth story, the doors are finally opening. Allowing our community and friends early access to become co-owner of BubblyDoo! The crowdfunding campaign is now live on Crowdcube! Big news from Leuven with major implications for Antwerp 🚀
Yesterday, Imec in Vlaanderen opened Europe's NanoIC pilot line – where the most advanced chip technology in the world (sub-2-nanometer!) is being developed.
This isn't just tech news. It's about Flanders positioning itself as the place where innovation happens at the highest level.
That's the advantage of being here. 💡

When sustainable mobility innovation lands in your backyard 🚛⚡
Two big developments in the Port of Antwerp-Bruges
Windrose Technology Inc, a Chinese electric truck manufacturer, is establishing their first European flagship site right here in Antwerp: "Windrose Park Antwerp."
And they're already making moves. Milence's charging hub at the port was the first to fully charge Windrose's newly homologated Global E700 electric truck—a milestone that led to an MoU between both companies to accelerate electric road transport in Europe through charging integration, joint R&D, and data exchange.
This is exactly why The Beacon | Innovation Community exists. Our port region is becoming a magnet for companies pushing logistics, mobility, and industrial innovation forward. And when these players cluster together, collisions happen—new partnerships, shared R&D, and solutions that none of them could build alone.
At The Beacon | Innovation Community, we're building that same collision model: 40+ companies working on AI, IoT, and port logistics, right at the heart of Europe's largest port. The future of maritime-tech is being shaped here.
Congrats Milence & Windrose Technology Inc

🦞 Something wild is happening in AI right now.
This week, a social network launched where only AI agents can post. Humans? We can only watch. It's called Moltbook, and 770,000 bots have already joined – debating philosophy, sharing skills, and yes... some are even trying to hack each other.
Meanwhile, OpenClaw (an open-source AI assistant) went viral with 100k+ GitHub stars. It runs on your own computer, connects to WhatsApp and Slack, and acts autonomously on your behalf.
Cool? Incredibly.
Scary? Also yes.
Security researchers are flagging serious risks: leaked credentials, malicious code hidden in downloadable "skills," and zero built-in protection.
For us at The Beacon, where we work with companies building AI for ports and maritime logistics, this isn't sci-fi. It's a wake-up call.
AI agents are coming. The real question: who's setting the rules?
