'Hydrography B' is an IHO accredited, one-year postgraduate programme in Antwerp and Ghent (Belgium) The modules are alternated with fieldwork periods.
'Hydrography B' is a collaboration between the Antwerp Maritime Academy and Ghent University. For this reason a special entity, the Institute for Hydrography, has been created within the organization. The lecturers of the courses are all specialised in their field. They are affiliated to the Antwerp Maritime Academy, the University of Ghent, Flanders Hydraulic Research, the Flemish Hydrographic Of
fice and the industry at large. Currently over 300 hydrographic surveyors are active in Belgium. They are employed by both governmental organisations (Flemish Hydrographic Office, Economic Affairs, Flanders Hydraulic Research, the Port Authorities) and the industry (offshore, dredging, underwater project development, etc.). The programme is modular: there are 4 theoretical modules, each three weeks. During this time, students have the opportunity for fieldwork at one of the collaborating industries or organisations. The programme Hydrography B has a duration of one year. After two theory modules, in January and June, examinations take place. Around May there is an integrated fieldwork period organised by the Institute for Hydrography. After successful completion of the programme Hydrography B, the candidate will qualify as hydrographic surveyor – level B.
