History came alive for our Grade 6-7 Dutch Language & Literature and Language Acquisition Proficient students during their unit "Geschiedenis komt tot leven"! 📚
Rooted in the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) global context of Orientation in Space and Time, our young learners explored how stories, legends and fairy tales connect us to our shared heritage and social histories. Starting with the book De Wonderverteller, students journeyed through the history of the VOC (Verenigde Oost-Indische Compagnie) and the famous legend of the Flying Dutchman (De Vliegende Hollander). 🌊⛵

As Inquirers and Open-minded thinkers, students critically explored different literary genres, examined author choices and reflected on how stories travel across time and cultures. To dig even deeper, students read the stories behind the new Max & Moritz attraction (translated from German) and delivered engaging presentations on unfamiliar fairy tales from the Fairytale Forest (Sprookjesbos)!

To crown their learning journey, the group took a thrilling trip to Efteling, where the very legends, folklore and fairy tales they studied came to life around them! 🎡🐉

Experiencing history at close quarters empowers our students to become reflective communicators with a deep appreciation for culture and storytelling. 🏰✨

The New Gym is missing its favourite players. In less than a month, the Griffins will be back for their Fall season.🏐⚽👟

In the meantime, let's share some memories of last year's teams, who brought passion, determination and Griffin spirit to every game. Throughout the season, our athletes showed incredible teamwork, resilience and support for one another. You can feel the connection between the players in these photos, a reminder that sports are about so much more than competition. They're about building friendships, confidence, perseverance and a strong sense of community.

Being a Griffin means so much more than winning. We value the role of sports in fostering physical and mental well-being, teamwork and lifelong connections. Griffins never give up; we support each other and we fight until the very end! 💙

Our Grade 7 young scientists took over the STEMzone for their annual Science Fair on a Friday afternoon in June and the room was buzzing with curiosity, innovation and critical thinking. 🔬✨

Learning at AIS isn’t about memorising formulas, it’s a holistic journey of asking big questions, testing hypotheses and making real-world connections. From investigating the best shampoo for curly hair, discovering the relationship between thermals and the flight of birds of prey, to analysing how the type of surface affects the bounce of a football or learning about fermentation, our Grade 7s embraced every step of the scientific inquiry process.

At Antwerp International School, our mission is to Educate, Inspire and Empower. Watching our students present their findings with such confidence and passion shows what happens when we nurture curious minds within a supportive and caring community.

The Grade 4 Residential Field Trip was a stellar (pun-intended 🌟🌟) showcase of the PYP in action. Our young astronauts launched into learning at the Euro Space Centre. 🚀

The students became inquirers and risk-takers as they tackled astronaut training simulators, collaborated on space missions and developed independence away from home. It was the perfect hands-on connection to their Units of Inquiry and a memories-for-a-lifetime experience.

Passport? Check. Adventure? Check! 🌍✈️

Our young explorers had an incredible week in July travelling through Mexico, Australia, Italy, Japan and Brazil at our Around the World Summer Camp!

From creating cherry blossom art and carnival masks to making delicious fruit tacos, candy sushi, fairy bread and tropical treats, every day was packed with hands-on fun and discovery.

They danced samba, conquered ninja obstacle courses, played piñata games and made wonderful new friends along the way. 🌟

The week ended with a lively Brazilian Carnival Parade, bringing our world adventure all the way back to Belgium with music, smiles and lots of happy memories!

Our Grade 10 Residential Field Trip took students and brave teachers aboard two traditional Dutch tall ships ⛵ for an unforgettable voyage across the IJsselmeer to the Wadden Islands of Texel, Vlieland and Terschelling. Think raising sails at sunrise, helming through 6 beaufort winds, cooking meals together in the galley 🫢🍳 and falling asleep to gentle waves rocking the cabin.

This wasn't just a trip. It was experiential learning at its best. Students stepped outside their comfort zones, embraced new challenges, and discovered what it means to be principled, balanced and caring crew members. From navigating open water to supporting each other through chores, every moment demanded reflection, collaboration and resilience.

Captain Olaf rounded off the adventure with a sunrise walk across the dunes of Terschelling 🌅

When the weather gods in Belgium turned up the thermostats in June 🥵, our Early Years PE teacher, Ms Els, turned on the hose. Bubbles were flying, water spraying and laughter was heard everywhere. Our youngest students had a blast cooling off with water play. Summer learning at its finest. 🫧☀️💦

Grade 3 entrepreneurs meant business when they invited parents, students and teachers to their ‘Cardboard Wonderland’ games event. During their inquiries into the transdisciplinary unit ‘How We Organise Ourselves’, they discovered that great ideas combined with real skills leads to meaningful impact. From experiencing supply and demand through the Trading Game to interviewing local business owners, they've learned what it takes to bring a vision to life. They didn't stop at the theory. Stepping up as true thinkers and risk-takers, the students took on the ultimate challenge of planning and launching their very own business venture. They created a variety of arcade games from cardboard, designed using STEM skills and the SCAMPER visual thinking routine, marketed with student-made flyers and powered by genuine teamwork. All proceeds from ticket sales were donated to two worthy local charities. We are very proud of our young entrepreneurs!

With a mocktail and snacks, we celebrated the incredible volunteers who give their time, energy and heart to the school community ✨ . Their dedication makes AIS the special and tight-knit community it is. Sewing costumes for our theatre productions 🎭, baking cakes and cookies 🍪, organising an Easter egg run 🐰 or parent coffees ☕, maintaining the community garden and scorekeeping for the sports games 🏀🏐 are just a few examples of what our volunteer parents do for us. AIS would not be the same without their effort and dedication. THANK YOU 🙏 for all you do!
