📝 Essay Topic: (Task 2)
Some people believe that governments should focus on reducing environmental pollution, while others think economic growth is more important. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

✍️ Band 8 Essay
In the modern era, there is an ongoing debate about whether governments should prioritize environmental protection or economic development. While some argue that economic growth is essential, others believe that reducing pollution is more urgent. This essay will discuss both perspectives before presenting my own view.

On the one hand, economic growth is often considered the cornerstone of national development. A strong economy can alleviate poverty, create employment opportunities, and improve overall living standards. In many developing countries, industries constitute a significant part of economic activity, making them the predominant source of income. Therefore, limiting industrial expansion may not be feasible, as it could hinder progress and lead to financial instability. Moreover, some policymakers assert that environmental concerns can be addressed later, once a country achieves sufficient economic stability.

On the other hand, neglecting environmental issues can have profound and long-term consequences. Pollution not only harms ecosystems but also poses serious health risks, which can exacerbate existing social problems. If left unchecked, environmental conditions will inevitably deteriorate, making it more difficult to ensure a sustainable future. Furthermore, public awareness of environmental damage is becoming increasingly widespread, and many people are no longer willing to tolerate policies that undermine ecological balance. As a result, adopting sustainable practices is no longer optional but essential.

In my opinion, although economic development is important, environmental protection should be given greater priority. This is because economic gains are ultimately meaningless if they come at the expense of human health and environmental sustainability. Governments should implement strict regulations to mitigate pollution while also promoting green technologies that are both effective and viable in the long term.

In conclusion, while economic growth plays a crucial role in national progress, ignoring environmental concerns can lead to irreversible damage. Therefore, a balanced approach that emphasizes sustainability is the most logical and responsible path forward.
