লাল বাতির নিষেধ ছিল না,
তবুও ঝড়ের-বেগে-ধাবমান কলকাতা শহর
অতর্কিতে থেমে গেল।
ভয়ঙ্করভাবে টাল সামলে নিয়ে দাঁড়িয়ে রইল
ট্যাকসি্ ও প্রাইভেট্, টেম্পো, বাঘমার্কা ডবলডেকার
'গেল গেল' আর্তনাদে রাস্তার দু-দিক থেকে যারা
ছুটে এসেছিল—
ঝাঁকামুটে, ফিরিওয়ালা, দোকানী ও খরিদ্দার—
এখন তারাও যেন স্থির চিত্রটির মতো শিল্পীর ইজেলে
লগ্ন হয়ে আছে।
স্তব্ধ হয়ে সবাই দেখছে,
টালমাটাল পায়ে
রাস্তার এক-পার থেকে অন্য-পারে হেঁটে চলে যায়
সম্পূর্ণ উলঙ্গ একটি শিশু।
খানিক আগেই বৃষ্টি হয়ে গেছে চৌরঙ্গীপাড়ায়।
এখন রোদ্দুর ফের অতিদীর্ঘ বল্লমের মতো
মেঘের হৃদপিণ্ড ফুঁড়ে
নেমে আসছে;
মায়বী আলোয় ভাসছে কলকাতা শহর।
স্টেটবাসের জানালায় মুখ রেখে
একবার আকাশ দেখি, একবার তোমাকে।
ভিখারী-মায়ের শিশু,
কলকাতার যীশু,
সমস্ত ট্রাফিক তুমি মন্ত্রবলে থামিয়ে দিয়েছ।
জনতার আর্তনাদ, অসহিষ্ণু ড্রাইভারের দাঁতের ঘষটানি,
কিছুতেই ভ্রুক্ষেপ নেই;
দু'দিকে উদ্যত মৃত্যু, তুমি তার মাঝখান দিয়ে
টলতে টলতে হেঁটে চলে যাও।
যেন মূর্ত মানবতা, সদ্য হাঁটতে শেখার আনন্দে
সমগ্র বিশ্বকে তুমি পেতে চাও
হাতের মুঠোয়। যেন তাই
টালমাটাল পায়ে তুমি

ভগবান, তুমি যুগে যুগে দূত, পাঠায়েছ বারে বারে
দয়াহীন সংসারে,
তারা বলে গেল "ক্ষমা করো সবে', বলে গেল "ভালোবাসো--
অন্তর হতে বিদ্বেষবিষ নাশো'।
বরণীয় তারা, স্মরণীয় তারা, তবুও বাহির-দ্বারে
আজি দুর্দিনে ফিরানু তাদের ব্যর্থ নমস্কারে।
আমি-যে দেখেছি গোপন হিংসা কপট রাত্রিছায়ে
হেনেছে নিঃসহায়ে,
আমি-যে দেখেছি প্রতিকারহীন শক্তের অপরাধে
বিচারের বাণী নীরবে নিভৃতে কাঁদে
আমি-যে দেখিনু তরুণ বালক উন্মাদ হয়ে ছুটে
কী যন্ত্রণায় মরেছে পাথরে নিষ্ফল মাথা কুটে।

আজ ইতালীয় কবি ও চিন্তাবিদ উগো ফসকোলো (১৭৭৮–১৮২৭)-এর জন্মদিন। তিনি ছিলেন নির্বাসনের কবি, স্মৃতি ও স্বদেশচেতনার কবি, এবং মানবিক মর্যাদার এক দৃঢ় কণ্ঠস্বর।
ফসকোলোর কবিতায় বারবার ফিরে আসে—
স্বদেশ হারানোর বেদনা,
ইতিহাসের দায়,
আর মানুষের অস্তিত্বকে অর্থবহ করে রাখার সংগ্রাম।
তাঁর বিখ্যাত কাব্যগ্রন্থ দেই সেপোলক্রি (কবরসমূহ)-এ তিনি দেখিয়েছেন—
কবর শুধু মৃত্যুর প্রতীক নয়,
বরং তা স্মৃতি, উত্তরাধিকার ও ভবিষ্যৎ প্রজন্মের প্রতি দায়িত্বের চিহ্ন।
ফসকোলো আমাদের শেখান
• নির্বাসনে থেকেও মানুষ স্বদেশ বহন করতে পারে
• ব্যক্তিগত দুঃখ থেকেই জন্ম নিতে পারে সামষ্টিক চেতনা
• কবিতা কেবল সৌন্দর্যের অনুশীলন নয়, এটি নৈতিক দায়িত্ব
রোমান্টিক যুগের এই কবি আবেগে ডুবে থাকেননি—
তিনি আবেগকে রূপ দিয়েছেন চিন্তায়,
আর কবিতাকে রূপ দিয়েছেন প্রতিবাদে।
আজ তাঁর জন্মদিনে স্মরণ করি সেই কবিকে,
যিনি বিশ্বাস করতেন—
শক্তি যেখানে ব্যর্থ হয়, কবিতা সেখানেই টিকে থাকে।
শুভ জন্মদিন, উগো ফসকোলো।
'আশিটা বছর কেটে গেল, আমি ডাকিনি তোমায় কভু,
আমার ক্ষুধার অন্ন তা বলে বন্ধ করনি প্রভু।
তব মসজিদ মন্দিরে প্রভু নাই মানুষের দাবি।
মোল্লা পুরুত লাগায়েছে তার সকল দুয়ারে চাবি!'
কোথা চেঙ্গিস, গজনি মামুদ, কোথায় কালাপাহাড়?
ভেঙে ফেল ঐ ভজনালয়ের যত তালা-দেওয়া দ্বার!
খোদার ঘরে কে কপাট লাগায়, কে দেয় সেখানে তালা?
সব দ্বার এর খোলা রবে, চালা হাতুড়ি শাবল চালা!
