UKBET Transforming the futures of child workers through education and empowerment

The UK-Bangladesh Education Trust (UKBET) is a UK registered charity (no. 1027704) and a registered international NGO in Bangladesh. We train school teachers of English, run innovative education programmes for child workers and campaign for an end to child labour. Despite being against the law in Bangladesh the employment of children under-14 is still rife. Extreme poverty forces families to send

their children as young as six into work where 3.2m children are exploited, face abuse and are at risk of harm in return for very little pay. UKBET persuades employers to release working children for short, regular learning periods with specialist community teachers. Basic numeracy, literacy and essential life skills give them a foundation in education and, alongside working with their families, the aim is to support them out of work and into school or vocational training and brighter future opportunities.

At the age when Rohima should be in school, she is preparing food in someone else’s home just to survive.

Many children like Rohima are trapped in domestic child labour behind closed doors, away from public view. Through UKBET’s Doorstep Learning Programme, we bring education to them and help them move towards a better future.

From domestic child labour to school in 2027. 💛

Their eyes are full of dreams. These children are part of UKBET’s Doorstep Learning Programme, preparing for a life beyond domestic child labour—a life filled with learning, playing, and a normal childhood like every other child.

We are preparing 83 children to leave work and join school this December.

You can help make this possible. Your support can give a child the chance to leave child labour behind and step into a classroom. 📚

Join us in helping more children build a future beyond child labour.

A simple health check can prevent a family from facing a much bigger crisis. 💛
