Whenever I talk to anyone about JKC sir, I like to tell this one particular story.
As you all JKC fans know that Junaid sir takes us to 3 trips for ENV419 course. This story took place on the first trip to Satchori. The first morning of the Satchori trip, I woke up very early in the morning. I thought I was the only one awake but as I made my way to the front porch, I saw Junaid sir sitting on a chair staring into the abyss. Sir and I had the same idea to stare at the beautiful nature in front of us and enjoy the sounds of nature. I was half asleep still and didn’t want to bother sir so I sat on the stairs behind him quietly. We were both silently enjoying the sounds of an early morning and suddenly sir starts talking, “Iffat, oi gaachgula dekso? Shada chhop chhop gaacher gaye?”
I try to focus my sleepy eyes to find the trees, “umm.. amader shoja j gaachgula?”
Sir, “ha, shada gol gol chhap dekso na? Ogula keno hoise jano?”
“Na, sir.”
“Eigula k lichen bole. Lichen Ki jano?”
“Errr.. na, sir.”
“Lichen hocche plant-like organism…
Frankly I don’t remember much of the explanation of what lichen is. I got the gist of it but I was more amused by Junaid sir that he had to part wisdom 6 o’clock in the morning with such enthusiasm.
Since I learned about his ill health, all I can think about is that morning.
He was one of the best teachers I ever had. I’m really sad that he is gone but I hope that he is in a better place.
